Does this fashion stack up to what people were wearing at the bar this past weekend? Can us contemporary humans hold a candle to the Mid 70s nightlife fashions of Chicago's south and west side scenes. Here's just a glimpse into the much lesser photographed bars and clubs on the city's from these sides of town. Just a few of the 100s captured by Michael L. Abramson the Light: On The Southside book.

lovesliescrushing - blowyelashwish 2xLP+7" deluxe edition

An ambient symphony of ethereal decay, upgraded to 21st century classic status. Tracked at home in '92 with a 12-string guitar, 4 track recorder, looping pedal, infinite reverb, and the textured coos of enigmatic vocalist Melissa Arpin Duimstra, Scott Cortez's loveliescrushing project transformed post-adolescent bedroom daydreaming into a serene, moonlit float on an endless sea. This expanded and remastered double album edition adds five more distortion-wracked reflections from the vault, with lyrics and replica postcard to get lost in along the way. No need for the eyewash station here—blindness intended. youreyesimmactulate screen printed chipoard 7" limited to 500 copies.

The fifth and final drop from our forthcoming If You Can Hold Your Breath box by the Boston post-everything trio Karate. “Hard Song” finds Farina and co. experimenting with alt-rock in ‘93, before wising up and chasing the dreaded emo dream and delivering their seminal first three albums: Karate, In Place of Real Insight, The Bed Is In The Ocean. Limited 5LP box includes those LPs plus period singles and the previously unissued demo on two more LPs. Your mail carrier is gonna hate you.

The Majestic Arrows are waiting for the call from . Already got the promo shots in front of Buckingham Fountain just need to hit whichever corporate sponsored stage is ready to handle one of the absolute 🐐 of the Chicago soul scene.

But until then, the rarest Chicago sweet soul LP is back in print for the first time in half a century.

Dreamed up in the basement of his Bronzeville harem/headquarters, Arrow Brown's peerless The Magic of The Majestic Arrows album was the by-product of years operating at the fringe of Chicago's storied Record Row. Issued on his own Bandit imprint, the LP is a string-laden fantasia straddling the street corner doo-wop of the '50s and the Me Decade's studio excess. Backed by the Chosen Few and the Scott Brothers, arranged by Benjamin Wright, sung by Brown's 17-year-old daughter Tridia and Moroccos falsetto Larry Brown, and drawn by The Wind's Eugene Phillips, the album is an outsider D.I.Y. soul genie awaiting the rub of a phonographic needle to reveal its immortal sorcery. Be careful what you wish for.

Huge new addition to Guest List featuring a stacked pack of tracks selected by the one and only Jimmy LaValle of The Album Leaf: "This playlist features music that was significant during my formative years, when I first was exposed to the underground music scene of San Diego. Bands like Unwound, who I saw countless times touring through, and Clikatat Ikatowi were particularly influential to me then. Unwound's melodies amidst its chaos and the way Clikatat Ikatowi would navigate songwriting around Mario Rubalcaba's drumming were particular sources of inspiration. These bands finding a home at Numero Group reflects the label's narrative. I am honored to be associated with it.

In the early 2000’s, Tiger Style Records signed a multitude of bands and The American Analog Set and The Mercury Program were bands I greatly admired and toured with while playing in my band, Tristeza. This playlist captures the excitement of my early 2000s and includes selections from Numero Group's catalog that I've long admired. Hope you enjoy my picks!" -Jimmy LaValle

In the Fall of 2000, Death Cab for Cutie was playing in Austin and had some time to swing by our house while we were working on recordings for 2001’s Know By Heart. A few months earlier, I sent Ben a cassette’s worth of demos including “The Postman”. At that time we had two competing arrangements of “The Postman”. One with Mark’s drums driving the rhythm, and a second that featured the Mini Pops Junior drum machine heard on so many of our demos from that era. I asked Ben if he would sing the harmony on the first version and he obliged. Still partial to the original demo, Ben asked if he could sing the lead on the second version as it had more in common with the demo. For 25 years, his performance has bounced around from mixtapes, to mix cds, to mp3s and has always been a favorite memory from that era. Thanks, Ben!

The American Analog Set x Benjamin Gibbard collaboration is officially out now with an opportunity to catch both together this weekend in Brooklyn!

A new seedling has sprouted in the Numero Private Mind Garden plus Frank crashing this mornings photoshoot with our office library copy of Doug Firebraugh's Performance One.

Operating out of a suite in the Roanoke, Virginia Ramada Inn, Tiffin Music Enterprises International was but one of hundreds of gray-market record companies offering dubious services to Nashville aspirants. Cut in three days in 1975, 20-year-old Firebaugh wrote and played every bummed-out note, save a forgotten pedal steel-man. 50th anniversary edition remaster fits snuggly in your private mind garden.

Recommended for fans of the Cosmic American Music series. If looking for an OG, there's a copy for $800 on discogs now. If not, we got you starting at $25 on the site.
