With profound respect and heartfelt emotion, the Town of Chapin shares that Mayor Al Koon has made the difficult and deeply personal decision to enter hospice care.

Mayor Koon has devoted many years of unwavering service to the people of Chapin—guiding our community with integrity, compassion, and a steadfast commitment to doing what is right for our town. His leadership has shaped not only the policies and projects that strengthened Chapin, but also the spirit of unity, kindness, and perseverance that defines who we are today.
Words cannot fully express our gratitude for his dedication and the countless ways he has served our residents, businesses, and families. His love for Chapin is evident in every street, every event, and every life he has touched.

At the request of the Mayor’s family, we ask our community and the media to continue respecting their privacy during this profoundly difficult time. The Town will provide updates only as appropriate and in close coordination with the family. While the family is not receiving visitors at this time, community members who wish to share their support may drop off letters, cards, or messages of encouragement at Town Hall, where they will be personally delivered to the family. In another show of support and admiration, town staff will be wearing purple and orange in honor of his favorite team. If you feel moved to participate we would love to see the Chapin community in their purple and orange tomorrow- Thursday, October 16.

We encourage our residents to keep Mayor Koon and his family in their thoughts and prayers, and to honor his legacy through continued service, kindness, and love for the Town he has so faithfully led.

National Principal’s Month | Honoring Dr. Huckabee

Leadership that listens.
Decisions that start with:
“What’s best for our students?”

Dr. Huckabee brings calm, clarity, and care
into every hallway, meeting, and moment.

She leads with compassion,
thinks deeply,
reads widely,
and even finds time
to look up — and notice the birds.

We’re grateful for her steady presence,
her thoughtful leadership,
and her unwavering focus on what matters most.

Thank you, Dr. Huckabee.
