Celebrating 8 years of Alejandro Escovedo’s The Crossing

Alejandro’s first album with Yep Roc to tells the story of two young immigrants, one from Mexico and one from Italy, as they come to the United States in search of their punk rock idols and the American Dream. Recorded in Villafranca, Italy with the band Don Antonio, the album features a who’s who of guest stars including James Williamson (The Stooges), Wayne Kramer (MC5), Peter Perrett and John Perry (The Only Ones), Joe Ely and more.

Nick Lowe’s The Convincer came out 25 years ago today.

Nick Lowe’s 2001 album The Convincer established him as an elder statesman of rock and roll, far removed from the ironic power popper he was in the 1970s. The album arrived in a different world than the day before, releasing on September 11, 2001. These were songs for troubled times (“I’m a Mess,” “Lately I’ve Let Things Slide”) and Nick’s songwriting was never sharper, with Mojo Magazine saying “Nick Lowe has made the album of his career.”

For the album’s 20th anniversary in 2021, Yep Roc added three bonus tracks, a long-lost Lowe-original called “Different Kind of Blue,” an acoustic cover of The Shirelles’ “Mama Said,” and a stripped-back rendition of The Chi-lites’ “There Will Never Be Any Peace (Until God Is Seated at the Conference Table).”

Remembering Tommy McLain today on the anniversary of his 2022 album I Ran Down Every Dream. Recorded across Louisiana, Texas, California, and England amidst a heart attack, two hurricanes and a house fire, I Ran Down Every Dream is a testament to the resiliant nature of an artist and his community.

“I Hope" was performed to honor the late Bobby Charles, a swamp pop pioneer as well who orignally penned the song in 1964.

Today we remember Dolly Parton, one of the most beloved figures in the history of music.

As lifelong fans, we at Yep Roc Records, along with the Southern Folklife Collection, were honored to reissue Dolly’s very first single, “Puppy Love,” originally released by Goldband Records in 1959. Even at such a young age, the record showed that she was already an unmistakable performer. From that humble first record came a lifetime of songs and accomplishments that continue to inspire generations.

We’re grateful that we had the opportunity to help bring this piece of music history back into the world.

We will always love you, Dolly. ❤️

In 2019 the Rubinoos brought us From Home, an album recorded at the same Hyde Street Studios in San Francsico where they cut their first single in the ‘70s. Jon Rubin, Tommy Dunbar, Donn Spindt and Al Chan were joined by Rubinoos superfan Chuck Prophet, who helped pen new songs like “Rocking In Spain,” “Honey From The Honeycombs,” and “Masochist Davey.”

The music video for lead track “Do You Remember,”features subculture dancer ✨Dance Culture By Aranivah✨ giving the Rubinoos some ska and northern soul flair!
