Myanmar Military Council to Negotiate with US on New 40% Tax
After Donald Trump sent a letter announcing a 40% tax on Myanmar exports, the military council said it will begin talks with the US for a fair deal.
Spokesperson Zaw Min Tun said they also asked the US to reduce import tariffs and explore investment opportunities.
In 2023–24, trade between the two countries was $701.9M; in 2024–25, it dropped to $588.3M.
Myanmar is among several Asian nations facing high US export taxes under Trump’s new policy.
