06/12/2023

Is it proper for traffic officer(s ) to jump in the front of a moving vehicle just because the vehicle refused to stop when it was flagged down ? Our officers need a lot of training.
What is your view?

Dangers of excessive speed driving-

Are you driving to arrive at your destination alive or you are driving to get yourself killed or to kill innocent road users when you disregarded speed limit signs on the road. Do you know that the vehicle you are driving has its own speed limit?. How do you bring your vehicle to a halt in case of any emergency?. Of course your vehicle is likely to somersault and you might not be around to tell the story. Think of your loved ones; life has no duplicate. A pedestrian hit at 30km/h has a 90% chance of SURVIVING while a pedestrian hit at 50km/h has an 80% chance of BEING KILLED. It is a behavior you can eliminate- what do you do? "Just slow down". Observe the traffic rules and regulations. " Remember, it is better to be late than been the Late".

Drivers, stop endangering the lives of your children when driving by putting him/her on your laps or the passenger seat. The children should be placed at the back seat wth the seatbelt fasten on. When driving your attention must not be divided as any slighted distrac tion can lead to a fatal accident where you might not live to tell the story. Beware!

Do you have to make or receive that call when you are crossing the road be it expressway or even inner street as a pedestrian. You are endangering your life and prone to be knocked down by an oncoming vehicle, unlike a motorist who could be arrested and fined for using the phone while driving as stated in the lagos state traffic law 2012- ltem 39 Shedule 1 of the law, as not to get yourself killed by your very act which is contributing negligence. it is adviceable that you dont use your phone/ear piece when crossing the road.

Overloading of your vehicle either wth goods or passengers is an offence. The moment you cannot close the booth of the vehicle or the door of the vehicle conveniently indicate that you have overloaded the vehicle and you can be arrested by law enforcement officers as provided for in the Lagos State Road Traffic Law 2012 Schedule I Item 30. The offence attracts a fine of #50,000 and the excess would be dislodged. The overloaded vehicles are mostly commercial ones and they pose serious danger on the roads as many commuters have lost their lives. Another appauling site is when the over loaded vehicles(particularly articulated vehicles) have the motor boys sitting on such overloaded goods or the market women sitting on the goods risking their lives. It is an offence as ignorance of law is not an excuse.

Roadrage- Do you allow the frustrating situation you are facing when driving gets the better part of you by turning your anger on fellow motorists because of traffic logjam? Well, that attitude is wrong as it is expected that you should be courteous to them base on the law of reciprocity. The situation where you exchange altercations with other driver or motorist while driving which sometimes lead to a fight and you engaged in physical assault, abuse or use dangerous weapons on each other is called Roadrage, it is an offence under Traffic law. Equally by virtue of section. 83 of Criminal Code Act, it is called Affray for fighting in public place and the offender is liable to one year imprisonment. Be warned!
