California-based singer-songwriter Karla Hutton returns with her second single, “Iris,” out TODAY via my label Pastiche Records.

I love this song and it was exciting to work with Karla as she composed it during our mentorship container. The narrative reminds me of Flaubert's "Madam Bovary", tapping into the archetype of a housewife who surrenders her dreams to fit the mould of the "good wife."

Iris captures the moment Iris finally lets go - and lays down the life she never chose.

Rooted in alternative folk and Americana, Iris follows the July release of Wild and is the second in a series of four singles coming this summer via Pastiche Records. Listen via link below in comments X

Karla is phenomenal storyteller and organic song writer and I'm so happy that we are finally releasing her first single from these sessions on Friday 25th July on Pastiche Records 🎸💥

💥 79 YEAR OLD WOMAN LAUNCHES DEBUT SINGLE! 💥

I can not be more excited about the next release on my label Pastiche Records "Notre Jardin" by chanteuse extraordinaire: Carmen Irama.

Not only is Carmen one of my favourite human beings, a natural creative + wild, maverick thinker, she is launching her DEBUT single at 79 years old. I could not be more proud!!

After Carmen spotted me on University Challenge a couple of years ago + reached out, I spent 2 days in her home in north London weaving her epic life stories (from Venezuela to France via Trinidad) into impressionistic song narrative.

In her London home, Carmen has created one of the most enchanting gardens I’ve ever seen with a secret pathway through Jasmin, hollyhocks and tunnels of trees ❤️ which inspired us to use Voltaire’s adage “Il fault cultivar notre jardin.” We must cultivate our garden. 🌸🌺🌻

How zeitgeist this has transpired to be, in this global pandemic of political polarisation. We may not be able to fix the world or comprehend the nuances of everyone's reality, but if we are lucky enough, we can still plough our soil and smell the flowers.
This is a love song after all, dedicated to Carmen's 3 children Greta Gould Rosie (a milliner who created the hats in the photos + the hats for Wicked!)) and her son Joe, who has down syndrome.

Notre Jadin is out on Friday 31st via Pastiche Records!

6 years ago today was the launch of my 4th album Wishbones at the Southbank Centre Purcell Room! Seems like yesterday. 🎵🎵🎵

This Friday 1st Nov we will be playing a couple of tunes from this record plus plenty from the latest album Half Cut at Soul Mama London. 🔥🔥

This is a gorgeous new venue with incredible Latin/Caribbean gastronomy + insane cocktails. We will def be drinking Caipirinhas on the roof top bar afterwards.
