Our Story
FRED (Film Radio Entertainment & Dialogue) is a multi-channel online radio station targeted at all those who love independent cinema and all those who gravitate around the world of film festivals: filmmakers, film critics, journalists specializing in cinema, film students, festival organizers and film industry workers (producers, distributors, sales agents, etc).
The idea of FRED is to allow all those who cannot be at film festivals to share in the experience as if they were, and to offer more in-depth information and targeted entertainment to those actually there.
We will provide information on film premieres, the response of critics and audiences to films and information on filmsโ production and distribution. We will also provide information connected to productions and co-productions and the advantages of shooting in certain areas, as well as interviews with festival directors and other key players in the film industry, or interviews with film directors, actors and critics. Every now and then we will broadcast live from the festivals.
We will have a contemporary hit radio programming (also known as โtop 40 or pop radioโ; playlists will include new cutting edge music, current hits and popular hits of the last 6 to 12 months, plus some oldies), but all programs and news will focus on a single theme, i.e. the world of cinema, film festivals all over the globe and independent cinema.
Therefore, any news provided will be strictly connected to cinema, and at any given time content will focus on any festivals going on at that time, as well as upcoming festivals (there are approximately 2,000 film festivals per year all over the world).
We plan to start off with 3 channels (one in English and one in Italian, plus an informative channel with press conferences, interviews, workshops, etc.). However, it is our intention to have many more channels in different languages over time โ we wish to have 8-10 channels by the end of 2012. These channels will share the same programming (the same music and the same programs), but the hosts will speak in a different language on each channel. As we explained, the content will be strongly information-based yet we also plan to broadcast approximately 10 songs per hour on channels 1 and 2. Songs will be interspersed in between speaking/information-based programs.
We also plan to establish a network of young correspondents (film students and young journalists) attending festivals all over the world. This will add freshness and punch to the rest of our high-quality programming, which will not by any means be jeopardized by this approach. It will still be centrally managed by seasoned radio professionals, guaranteeing that the highest standards are respected. Our expert staff will teach young correspondents to write and broadcast professionally from locations all over the world, using state-of-the art technology.
