Exactly 5 years ago, I wrote about how it is difficult to be resolute with your new year resolution throughout the year. The swarm of humans that you see in the gym for the first couple of weeks of January (and not a day beyond!) stand in testimony to it. For instance, many people make the resolution to adopt a healthy lifestyle and then conveniently forget it. My solution, half a decade earlier, was to create a resolution that is SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, Timely). Rather than setting your goal as ‘to adopt a healthy lifestyle’, you could choose to ‘go to gym at least 100 days in the year’. This tweak in my goal setting has helped me tremendously for the last 5 years. But, I have constantly felt that there is a missing link. Setting ‘SMART’ new year resolution is necessary but not sufficient condition for us to be able to set resolutions that we would be able to follow throughout the year.
