According to MY SA news publication:
Kerrville City councilwoman Brenda Hughes says that city staff members are facing threats in the wake of the flood and is requesting increased security at City Hall after a number of reportedly threatening phone calls were made to employees.

City and county officials have been under scrutiny since the deadly July Fourth Guadalupe flood. Many have questioned why officials didn't accept Biden-era federal funds to improve storm drainage, emergency communications systems and public facilities or why they didn't follow through on a number of proposals for flood sirens over the last decade.

Assistant City Manager Michael Hornes said that he will talk about increasing security with the state and local authorities and that city staff has been instructed to hang up on callers “the second somebody starts to get abusive.”

Heavy rains reported in the Central Texas town of Lampasas early this morning, triggering flash floods that left roads submerged, homes threatened, and emergency crews scrambling to respond.

Between 5:00 a.m. and 8:30 a.m., the National Weather Service recorded over 8 inches of rain in parts of Lampasas County, with some isolated areas receiving even more. Low-lying roads near Sulphur Creek and the Lampasas River quickly turned into raging currents, stranding vehicles and flooding multiple intersections.

Lampasas County Emergency Management confirmed that at least three swift-water rescues had taken place by late morning, though no injuries had been reported. First responders were seen assisting elderly residents and pets from homes near the downtown area, where drainage systems were quickly overwhelmed.

The National Weather Service warns that the rain is not over yet. Additional showers and thunderstorms are expected throughout the afternoon, with saturated ground increasing the risk of more flash flooding.

Two decades ago, prior to the creation of ICE as we know it today, immigration officials launched Operation Vanguard, an enforcement effort to hold EMPLOYERS (not just undocumented workers) accountable and fine them for illegal hiring practices. It began in Nebraska, where thousands of immigrant workers fled meatpacking jobs as agents investigated forged documents. The goal was to cut off the job magnet that fuels illegal immigration.

But the backlash came swiftly, not from immigrant advocates, but from business leaders, the U.S. chambers of commerce, and politicians all across the Midwest to Texas who suddenly realized the workers they wanted gone were also the ones keeping their towns running. Slaughter lines slowed, communities unraveled, and the operation was quietly forced to shut down.

Since then, U.S. immigration enforcement has focused largely on the border and deporting individuals rarely the companies profiting from unauthorized labor.

Former INS Regional Commissioner Mark Reed, who spearheaded Vanguard, says the real hypocrisy is that America never had the stomach to hold employers accountable. “We’re used to cheap labor and cheap goods,” he said. “We just never wanted to pay the price for true enforcement.”

Despite tougher rhetoric from presidents like Trump, employer crackdowns have remained rare. The fines are weak, the system (like E-Verify) is flawed, and politically, it’s easier to build fences than to dismantle the economic incentives inside our borders. As Reed puts it: “Employer sanctions are the real wall. But we never built it.”

Did You Know?

In 1996, President Bill Clinton signed the Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act (IIRIRA) into law. This sweeping legislation, enacted on September 30, 1996, introduced major changes to U.S. immigration enforcement.

One of its most controversial tools? Expedited removal: a process that allows immigration officers to deport certain noncitizens without a hearing before an immigration judge, often within days and with limited legal recourse.

While originally intended for recent arrivals at ports of entry, ICE and other immigration authorities have significantly expanded its use in recent years, applying it deeper inside the U.S. and to individuals who have lived here for weeks, months, or even longer.

Critics argue this undermines due process and disproportionately affects asylum seekers and individuals with limited English or legal knowledge.
Supporters say it’s a necessary tool to deal with overwhelming caseloads and illegal entry.

Walmart Kerrville didn’t wait—they acted.

From day one, their entire leadership team rallied to get food, clothing, and essentials into the hands of those who lost everything.

💬 “We’ve sent pallets upon pallets to the Salvation Army and Red Cross… even a pair of shoes to someone who fled in flip-flops.”

They’ve provided mobile showers, bathrooms, and laundry units—open to both first responders and the public.

Walmart became more than a store. It became a lifeline. 🙌. See the full interview here: https://youtu.be/BCr19AOuf_U
