Dating back to the 1700s, this historic barrier island has seen everything from humble summer shacks to elegant seaside homes, surviving centuries of storms, shifting sands, and change. Today, it still holds onto that “sleepiest beach town” charm that’s made it one of America’s oldest seaside resorts. 🌊✨

Step back in time and meet Miss Ruby Ethel Middleton—an extraordinary educator who broke barriers and built futures during the Jim Crow era. In a one-room schoolhouse on Pawleys Island, she taught generations of Black children with grace, grit, and a whole lot of love. 💛📚

From teaching discipline and dignity to ringing her school bell at age 85, Miss Ruby’s legacy lives on through Miss Ruby’s Kids, a nonprofit changing lives to this day.

Did you know the Sullivan’s Island Lighthouse—aka Charleston Light—is the last major lighthouse built by the U.S. government and one of the most technologically advanced of its time?

Standing tall at 162.5 feet, it’s the second brightest lighthouse in the Western Hemisphere and the only one in the U.S. with both air conditioning and an elevator! 🚨🌴

This beacon of the beach has lit the way since 1962 and continues to be a proud part of Lowcountry history. 🏝
