Worple Press We are an independent publisher of poetry collections, books of translation, and anthologies of new writing. Above all, we look for excellence.

Worple Press was founded in 1997 and is co-directed by Peter and Amanda Carpenter. Our list is dominated by collections of poetry, but we also produce arts titles. We like to showcase new writing and we welcome diversity of format and approach (anthologies, translations, interviews, dictionaries). Some of our authors are justly world famous: Iain Sinclair, Elizabeth Cook, Clive Wilmer and Kevin Jackson, for example. We have an established reputation for high quality publication standards:

Worple aims to produce books that are a pleasure to handle as well as to read. We have an international outlook: Worple publishes writers based in Japan, France, the USA and Ireland as well as from the UK. We acknowledge previous funding assistance from Arts Ireland and the Arts Council and have worked with the Arvon Foundation and the Jerwood Trust.

We're delighted to announce the publication of THE HANDS OF A GARDENER by Sarah Salway!

In 'The Hands of a Gardener', Sarah Salway conjures up the magic of Lancelot ‘Capability’ Brown (1716–83), the man responsible for reshaping the English landscape as we still know it today. It is a story of ambition, social change, and many influential women previously hidden from history.

‘From the very first poem, with its surprise of sensuality, we know Sarah Salway’s portrait of 18th Century English gardener and landscape architect, Lancelot Brown, will be an intimate one. We're delighted to announce the publication of ELEMENTAL: WATER - New Poetry for the Planet from Cambridge!

A celebration of water in all its forms, this anthology gathers new poems from the first year of the Elemental Poetry project, a series of free poetry workshops on the five classical elements, held at Pembroke College and a range of other venues across Cambridge. Anyone with a connection to Cambridge was invited to take part and submit a poem, and we were thrilled with the response!

Here you'll discover poems about waterfalls and waterbirds and watercolour paintings. Poems about rising tides and threatened chalk streams. Poems that praise the world’s rivers alongside the dishwater in a kitchen sink. Poems embracing Cambridge’s local waters – the Fens, the Cam – as well as distant oceans.

Landline: How Poetry Can Call Us Home - readings by William Wootten and Derek Healy - Saturday 11th April 2026

William Wootten’s Landline takes us from Eden to the end of the world. Its poems circumnavigate the globe and journey to Venus and the Underworld, bringing arresting voices via intricate patterns of rhyme and metre. ‘A fine poet … and a richly musical one’. Declan Ryan, Poetry.

Derek Healy's fourth and latest collection, Children in the Window, uses traditional and free verse forms to look at a wide range of themes, including family, loss and ageing; the making of a new home; the messages to be found in prehistory; and understanding ourselves in a quantum universe. At its heart is an extended sonnet sequence dedicated to his wife.
