The deadline has come and gone to submit nomination papers to appear on the ballot for this year's local election. Here is a look at the races in the twin cities. As always, FLAP TV in partnership with FATV and LTV will host debates and election night coverage.

FITCHBURG:
Mayor - Incumbent Mayor Samantha Squailia to run unopposed.

CIty Council:
Ward 1: incumbent Bernard Shultz to run unopposed

Ward 2: Incumbent Paul Beauchemin vs. Scott Michael Englund

Ward 3: Incumbent Andrew Couture vs. Joseph Bowen

Ward 4: Incumbent Andrew Van Hazinga vs. Lewis Chamberlain

Ward 5: Incumbent Marisa Fleming to run unopposed

Ward 6: Incumbent Derrick Cruz to run unopposed

Councilor at Large. 9 Candidates will vie for 5 seats. Incumbents Anthony Zarrella, Sally Cragin, Elizabeth Walsh, and Amy Green will be joined on the ballot by challengers Robert Talbot, Annie Louise Belmer, Brian Lipomi, Christopher Batinsey, and Kevin Starr

School Committee:
Six candidates will vie for three seats. Incumbents Peter Stephens, Maritza Maria Knight and Rosemary Reynolds will appear on the ballot as well as challengers Deanna Tardiff, Erynn Dayhoff , and Robert Campbell

LEOMINSTER:
Mayor - Incumbent Mayor Dean Mazzarella to run unopposed

City Council:
Ward 1: Incumbent Robert Tocci NOT seeking re-election. Two candidates will vie to replace him: Eladia Romero-Rodriguez vs. Lisa Ann Contreras

Ward 2: Incumbent Pauline Cormier vs. Divine Allah Blackman

Ward 3: Incumbent David Cormier will run unopposed

Ward 4: Incumbent Mark Bodanza vs. Peter Haigis

Ward 5: There will be a preliminary election in September to narrow the field from 3 candidates to 2 candidates. The three candidates appearing on the September ballot are incumbent Carrie Noseworthy and challengers Suzanne Koehler and Edward Albert

Councilor at Large:
6 candidates will vie for 4 seats. Incumbents Claire Freda, Brandon Robbins, Susan Chalifoux Zephir, and Thomas Ardinger will be joined on the ballot by challengers Melissa Bible, and Eric Mabie.

School Committee:
Ward 1: Incumbent Jennifer Alker vs. Mary Katz Rothenberg

Wards 2, 3, 4, & 5 incumbents to run unopposed

At Large: There are 3 candidates for 3 seats. Caleb Weldon will join incumbents Greg Thomas and Salvatore Perla on the committee.

Sad news. Condolences to the family and friends of Leominster Ward Five City Councilor Peter Angelini who died today after a brief illness. Councilor Angelini was a lifelong Leominster resident, and served his community with pride and distinction in many capacities over the years. From serving on Leominster's conservation commission, Leominster Land Trust executive committee, Leominster open space committee, the Notown watershed coalition, and a distinguished member of the Leominster city Council. Peter lived and breathed Leominster.  in accordance with the Leominster city charter, the second place finisher in the last election, Carrie Noseworthy will fill the unexpired term on the city council. Councilor Angelini was married to the late Sandra (Ricker) Angelini who passed in 2024.
