"If our greatest need had been information, God would have sent us an educator. If our greatest need had been technology, God would have sent us a scientist. If our greatest need had been money, God would have sent us an economist. If our greatest need had been pleasure, God would have sent us an entertainer. But our greatest need was forgiveness of sins, so God sent us a Saviour."

Here's our last snippet from our Mental Health Themed issue! Alwyn from Trellis Counselling wrote a book review on Anxious Generation by Jonathan Haidt. The book discusses a rise in mental health issues in young people, reasons for this increase, and ways to combat the issues. Alwyn then concludes that technology impacts not only physical and mental health, but also spiritual health. "Clearly technology, with all its benefits, needs to be engaged with, with care."

Image Text:
"Reading, viewing and listening are processes that require discernment. Haidt does not tackle the subject from a Christian perspective. But that does not change anything in relation to his findings, which are valid."

Our latest issue of Contender included a devotional on Galatians 6:2, "bear one another's burdens."

As part of the devotional, Claire writes "walk alongside other believers, lean on each other when the road gets challenging, and reach out a hand to help other travellers to their feet. Together, we will carry our burdens, and walk on the narrow road to eternal life."

Elisa looks at joy through the lens of the Ten Commandments. It was a really interesting article with some good conclusions. Our possessions and relationships, while bringing us joy, cannot be the foundation of our joy, because those things are imperfect. Only God can be our joy!

Image Text:
"The commandments are a list of love, a list of gifts - God's gifts of love to us. They show us how much God loves us and how we can love Him back. They are the secret to joy."
Elisa Bolhuis

In his article, Declan looked into the topic of anxiety. It's a really interesting article, and one that comes at the topic from multiple perspectives.

Image Text:
"To acknowledge your anxiety as sin is the first step towards being freed from its power and experiencing God's peace."
Declan van der Laan

Camille's article tackles the complex topic of trauma, with biblical examples despite the word 'trauma' not appearing in the Bible. It's a well-written article, and we highly recommend this one!

Image Text:
"Pain, betrayal, neglect, turmoil, helplessness and grief are all very real experiences for the people of God. They are a part of what it means to live life in a fallen and broken world."
Camille de Vos

Our next issue is being released this Sunday! This one is the other half of the submissions for our mental health edition, in collaboration with Trellis Counselling!

We had so many submissions that we thought we'd separate it into two issues so that it would be easier to read through. Have you read the first issue? Are you looking forward to this one too?

Here's our first look at the second mental health themed edition we're releasing soon! Brady wrote a really insightful article into the prevalence of ADHD diagnoses, and contemplates why this could be and how this affects our lives as Christians.

Image Text:
"The problem with this shift is that sinful behaviour is attributed to the condition rather than the individual. If someone believes they simply can't help their actions and has a diagnosis to support that belief, it can create a sense of innocence, with no need to improve."
Brady de Vos
