NS 240 ( Atlanta, GA - Charlotte, NC ) makes a northbound run through Liberty, SC, with the sound of a canadian locomotive letting the folks know they are coming through. CP #8739 GE ES44AC leads the train while KCSM #4504 GE AC44CW trails 2nd as it rounds the curve through downtown Liberty heading for Charlotte, NC on this cool cloudy Thursday evening ( 04/30/2026 ).

CP and KCSM power in the Carolinas!

Tonight, we see NS 241 ( Charlotte, NC - Atlanta, GA ) breaking the silence through downtown Central, SC with a rare consist of locomotives that we really don't see on the Norfolk Southern Greenville District. Canadian Pacific ( CP ) #8739 GE ES44AC and Kansas City Southern De Mexico ( KCSM ) #4504 GE AC44CW take charge of the southbound intermodal bound for Inman Yard in Atlanta, GA on this cool cloudy Friday evening. This photo was taken on ( 05/01/2026 ).

Canadian Pacific and Kansas City Southern Railway both merged on April 14th, 2023 and formed a new railroad called Canadian Pacific Kansas City ( CPKC ) that connects Canada, the United States, and Mexico together as one railroad.

It's weird that we saw this same set of locomotives back in Irondale, AL on NS 26A back on Sunday ( 04/26/2026 ).

Wow, has it really been 3 years and 3 days? 😲

We head to Pell City, AL to see an eastbound intermodal train. NS 28J ( Meridian, MS - Jacksonville, FL ) rounds the curve towards CP Brompton MP 776.2 this morning with UP #2634 GE ET44AH leading along with UP #2552 GE C45AH trailing 2nd, UP 3058 EMD ST70AH trailing 3rd, and UP #5141 EMD SD70M trailing 4th heading eastbound on the NS East End Division for Atlanta, GA and then towards Jacksonville, FL.

It is amazing that we caught UP #2634 three years and three days ago back in Central, SC leading NS 243. It is awesome to see this locomotive come back on the Norfolk Southern on NS 28J.

Rail action at the diamond in Attalla, AL!

NS A54 gets a signal to cross the diamond to enter the yard l, and shut down for the day with a pair of NS SD40-2 locomotives while NS 15T ( Irondale, AL - Allentown, PA ) make an eastbound run over the diamond after A54 gets out of the way, and then the Alabama & Tennessee River Railway crosses the diamond with a very rare former Illinois Central EMD SW14 diesel switcher leading the ATN local. It has been a great weekend for sure in Alabama. There is no telling what you will on the railroad!

We start our chase in Attalla, AL at the Norfolk Southern and Alabama & Tennessee River Railway diamond and enter changer. NS 15T ( Allentown, PA - Irondale, AL ) makes a westbound run on the AGS North District with the NS #4851 GE AC44C6M ( TAG Route ) Heritage Unit leading the way with two other NS units trailing behind. heading for Irondale, AL on this warm sunny Friday afternoon ( 04/24/2026 ).
