Illinois is heading to the Terminal! On a beautiful Tuesday afternoon, we head for Spartanburg, SC, in search of NS 243 ( Charleston, SC - Atlanta, GA ) and then chase it back to Greenville, SC. NS #1072 EMD SD70ACe ( Illinois Terminal Railroad ) Heritage Unit was leading the train off of the NS W-Line heading for Atlanta, GA. NS #1072 has been in storage in Altoona, PA, for a year waiting for a complete overhaul and maintenance. The locomotive was also taken to the paint shop and was cleaned up and repainted into its Illinois Terminal Heritage paint scheme. The locomotive looks great, and we want to thank Norfolk Southern for their hard work. These photos were taken on Tuesday ( 09/02/2025 ).

Southern serves the south once more! Here, we see NS 283 / BNSF Z-AUGSBD7 ( Charlotte, NC - San Bernardino, CA ) makes a southbound run by the N&W Roanoke Division Model Railroad headquarters in Central, SC with the NS #8099 GE ES44AC ( Southern Railway ) Heritage Unit leading the way. NS #8099 was ripped off NS 283 in Atlanta, GA and then was added to NS 370 for Chattanooga, TN later that evening. Photos were taken on this cool and cloudy Monday afternoon ( 08/04/2025 ).

Norfolk Southern and Union Pacific confirmed today that the companies are engaged in advanced discussions regarding a potential business combination.

There can be no assurances as to whether an agreement for a transaction will be reached or as to the terms of any such transaction.

NS and UP do not intend to make additional comments or provide an update on this matter unless and until they determine that disclosure is required or otherwise appropriate.

Amtrak Crescent #20 ( New Orleans, LA - New York, NY ) makes a northbound run by the N&W Roanoke Division Model Railroad headquarters in Central, SC tonight with the Amtrak Day One Heritage Unit leading the charge. Amtrak locomotive #301 is a Siemens ALC-42 Charger locomotive that was built to replace the current GE P42 Genesis locomotives that have been running for past 33 years. These locomotives are still running the system today until their days come to an end for good. If you see any Amtrak trains with the P42 Genesis on them, get your photos while you still can.
