Arkansas Press Women is proud to celebrate the retirement of longtime member, past president, and friend Mary Hightower, who officially retires Dec. 31 after an extraordinary career in communications!

Mary has been a member of APW since 1999 and served two terms as president from 2009–2013, helping guide the organization through growth and change while mentoring countless communicators along the way. In 2023, she was honored as Arkansas’s Communicator of Achievement, a recognition that reflects both her professional excellence and her lasting impact on others.

Most recently, Mary served as chief communications officer for the University of Arkansas Division of Agriculture, where she helped make agriculture accessible, relevant, and visible to everyday Arkansans. Throughout her career, she has been a trusted leader, a generous mentor, and a champion for strong, ethical communication!

Longtime Arkansas Press Women member Mary Hightower is officially retiring from the University of Arkansas System Division of Agriculture on Dec. 31, 2025.
