The Tacloban Port to Amandayehan Port is now operational 24/7, as announced by the Office of Civil Defense (OCD). This significant change, according to Regional Director Lord Byron Torrecarion, will greatly enhance daily trip numbers and alleviate the backlog of stranded trucks in Leyte and Samar. Previously, daytime operations were limited to 115 rolling cargoes daily. Nighttime navigation is expected to double this capacity, and ongoing ramp expansions at Amandayehan Port will further boost efficiency.
Torrecarion emphasized that the round-the-clock operations will reduce the time vessels spend anchored, minimizing spoilage of perishables. A noticeable easing of cargo truck queues has already been reported since operations began earlier this week. The successful implementation of 24-hour service stems from a coordinated government effort, following President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s directive during his recent regional visit.
Additionally, PPA regional manager Dianne Steffi Guillamon noted that rehabilitation of other Leyte ports is underway to address disruptions caused by the partial closure of the San Juanico Bridge, affecting heavy cargo transport since May 15.
