Happy Sunday Lovers!
I missed a milestone last month, 10 years since I stepped in front of the camera!
May 2014 I was senior stylist on a Target Spring Campaign. When asked to rock a pair of $10 jeans because of my silver hair I hesitated, but after years of styling campaigns with no real age representation (except for the granny nighties) I sucked it up and said yes.
That led me to going viral wearing a bikini for them later in 2014, then, of course my idea to and really step up and model to show my peers we weren’t invisible in advertising. I rejected more than I accepted, the ubiquitous granny nighties, incontinence products and retirement villages. I only took jobs with brands that wanted to show me as the vital, authentic, youthful 52 year old I was.
I’ve come such a long way, and, just so proud to see all my peers in that space now..not just inspiring each other but everyone.
Diversity has arrived, yes, size diversity, yes to cultural diversity, but the one thing that happens to us all is ageing.
Nothing to fear, everything to look forward to, including no f***s given.
