Happy Halloween! I normally don’t do anything special for Halloween, but this year, I wanted to make it something special to bring joy to Clark and his friends. I’m proud of the hours spent making homemade costumes and trunk or treat decorations. Clark won “spookiest” costume at the school carnival, and I won “Best Overall Trunk”. It was so much fun watching the kids pumpkin bowl!

Alaska continued, part 3.
In Seward, we took a boat tour around Resurrection Bay. It was a lovely day with intermittent sunshine, lots of wildlife, and a wonderful crew! If you are in Seward, I highly recommend Major Marine tours!
We saw eagles, coastal mountain goats, seabirds, horned and tufted puffins, fin whales, otters, seals and sea lions, and porpoises riding the front of our boat waves (although our crew didn’t get to see them). Clark also became a junior deckhand and recited some of the deckhand pledge over the intercom. The scenery was the best in Alaska with more views of glaciers, tall trees, and the beautiful water!

After my work (Kendra) in Anchorage was wrapped up, we traveled down into the Kenai Peninsula. On our drive to Seward, we stopped to watch beluga whales and take a hike to a Byron glacier. The day was so sunny and the temps were perfect!

My work flew me to Alaska for a project near Anchorage. I was collecting plant samples from an old military base to test locally foraged food for potential contamination from a known contaminated area. We collected mushrooms, bark, and berries. We also collected Chocolate Lily Wild Rice. The root produces these cool “bulblets” which are then boiled and eaten. I had never seen a plant like this before; it was so much fun to collect. The land was so beautiful! And, we even passed a young bull moose eating leaves.

Thank you all for the birthday wishes via text, calls, and FB messages!
Amanda made this milestone birthday so incredibly special with a getaway to Marfa and Balmorhea. We had such a great time relaxing and spending quality time together.
I also enjoyed my birthday serenade by Clark and the wonderful Adams kids. Thank you so much to Jessica and Steve for watching and taking care of Clark!!!

We helped to organize lights on Main Street in downtown Marathon for the first Hanging of the Greens. Thank you to everyone that helped out!
If you happen to be in Marathon or nearby next Saturday, come join in on the fun in downtown Marathon!! We have added new things to do and see this year. And we are already planning even bigger ideas for next year’s Fiesta de Noche Buena!

Ash Ketchum (Pokémon) just caught an event Pokémon…Pikachu in a Charizard costume! Halloween in a small town is so much fun!
First, we went to the fall carnival with fun activities like pumpkin slingshot, cake walk, bingo, mini games, enchilada dinner, and “Guess the Skittles in a jar” (which Clark won the small jar with just a little over 1,000 skittles).
Next was “truck or treating”! About 15 kids piled into a trailer pulled by our friend’s truck. Then, we drove around to participating homes.
Finally, we made a quick stop at the motel’s Halloween party in the beautiful courtyard. Live music, dancing, kids running around, and lots of awesome costumes!
What a night!
Also, Clark was able to sport his new hair cut!

13 years and a few days ago, two young kids in love said “I do” and danced our first dance as wives to this song. I am so grateful for the life we have walked together, and the life we are living now.

Thanks to our friend, Amber, for capturing this photo!

* originally posted on Instagram, so the song selected is “More than Love” by Los Lonely Boys.

The night sky has been putting on a show this past week. First the northern lights, now a comet.
On a day that celebrates Indigenous People, I imagine what the indigenous people from hundreds of years ago would have thought when they saw these phenomenons. Were they scared? Did they see it as a sign of good harvest? Would they have feared they angered a god? Or, did they stare up and marvel at the wild and rare sighting with wonderment like me?
