Got no idea what degrowth is? No wukkas. I’ve just pinned an old post to my page on what degrowth is :)

But yep, July 24, the day we’ve used the amount of natural resources the Earth can replenish in one year. Now I know some will say this is an overpopulation problem, but this is not true. The problem is that wealthy nations like ours are consuming too much, way too much.

Degrowth is one of the solutions, a necessary one. One that will be better for our lives, and better for the planet.

Alright Labor, it’s the biggest win you could have ever hoped for, so do what you got elected to do and please stop helping out corporations who are burning the planet down. You’re risking way more by siding with Woodside than trying to please Peta Credlin and Sky News.

We’re angry. Labor’s approval of Woodside’s northwest shelf carbon bomb extension to 2070 is a f**k you to young people so we’re saying f**k you back.

While farmers are getting hit hard from huge droughts, other parts of the country are once again under water and we’re seeing a horror show of marine species washing up on SA’s shores, Labor are selling out to Australia’s flagship gas giant who are hell bent on destroying the planet to become even more unimaginably rich shipping gas overseas, in their approval of this gas extension which is one of the worlds largest gas projects. Instead of putting out the fire to give the youngest ones some hope for the future, they’re just pouring tonnes more fuel on it while pretending to care. They’re both climate criminals.

šŸ“£ What you can do:
1. Call or email the Environment Minister Murray Watt expressing deep concern and outrage - (02) 6277 7320 or [email protected]

2. Join a snap rally. Naarm/Melbourne actions are happening tomorrow and are posted at @350.org.au

Go make some noise and stand up for our planet šŸ‹

The approval one of the worlds biggest gas projects, ARE YOU F$&KING KIDDING ME!? The Labor government has just made one of its most disgraceful decisions ever giving gas giant Woodside the go ahead to drill and burn more climate polluting gas until 2070 with its north-west extension. WTF! Another 45 years of a planet wrecking gas project burning away when the IPCC clearly stated 4 years ago that we couldn’t open any new fossil fuel projects if we’re to maintain a safe and liveable planet.

This is an absolute climate crime. The Labor government would rather let their billionaire gas mates get even richer while the planet burns and young peoples future is ripped away. They should be completely ashamed of themselves

This project directly threatens the pristine waters and marine animals that call the north west home, as well as some of the ancient aboriginal cultural heritage including the 50,000 year old Murujuga rock art.

Feeling gutted and outraged like so many of us who care about the planet? It’s time to raise your voice. The more we stay silent the more this continues, and the more this continues the more biodiversity we lose, the more extreme weather we see like the droughts and floods were currently experiencing and the less hope we have for securing a liveable future. We cannot let the Labor government get away with this disgraceful move. Together we must stand up against this gas obsessed government who are serving the billionaires over the Australian people and take back our future. āœŠšŸ¼

And that’s a wrap, what an epic four months of campaigning that was. A huge learning experience, many ups and downs, but all absolutely worth it to see this movement for a better future for people and the planet growing so massively.

I want to say a huge thank you to everyone who has been involved and volunteered their time over the past 4 months, these campaigns are built on people power, so we can’t do it without you, especially to my small team, my family and my partner in crime for supporting me.

While it would have been nice to achieve a higher result in Corangamite, I am stoked with what we did achieve considering the forces we had working against us, and nationally, we recorded our highest vote ever. We had so many new volunteers getting involved and more people jumping on board and spreading our message, and that’s what it’s all about. It’s not always about campaigning to win, it’s about movement building, and that’s what we did.

Australia said no to Dutton’s politics of division, culture wars, scare campaigns and climate distractions, and we’re celebrating that. Tomorrow we need to push Labor to go bigger and do better for people and the planet. Democracy doesn’t just happen every three years at the ballot box, it happens every day, with our words and our actions, so let’s be democratic and make sure we push the next government to act boldly on the crises that we face.

Everyone has been asking me what’s next! For now, it’ll be some time away time relax and reset, and then I might look at exploring some new ways of creating, potentially with a podcast, but I’m not too sure yet! What I am sure of is that there is hope in this world, even if it doesn’t always feel like it. People do care, so my next mission is to help turn that care into action.

Lots of love,
Mitch šŸ’š

There we go, 3 and a half months of campaigning now all wrapped up as the polls close. HUGE Thankyou to everyone who has been involved in our campaign, whether you’ve stood with me on the street, handed out how to vote cards, letterboxed, hosted a sign, shared my posts, given me advice, I really appreciate it and I’m so grateful at how much support I’ve had behind me.

I’m SO stoked to see how much this movement is growing down here, and it’s incredible so see so many people get involved in the movement who haven’t before.

Now we’ll watch the count and wait for the outcome. See y’all on the other side folks and let’s hope for a great result.

Lots of love Mitch šŸ’š

Today a guy came up to me and said he’s never voted Greens, but this year he will be. He said the one thing that made him change his vote to Green, is because we don’t take donations from big corporations unlike Labor and the Liberals. We can’t be bought and we can’t be sold out. We need to make sure everyone knows this about the Greens, so please share, send this to your friends, and let’s make change happen this election. šŸ’š
