Why I love the Arabian breed and … Three horses from this race have spent time at our Super G Sporthorses farm.

Arabian horse racing in America has become about much more than racing. It’s about how the racehorses have become ambassadors for the Arabian breed on and off the track. This “Where Are They Now?” from the 2022 Emirates Breeders VIP Stakes at Bally’s Arapahoe Park in Colorado is a great example of that.

The stakes race included some of the best of this generation. Champions Like Moulin Rouge, Paddys Day, and Quick Sand AA—the top-3 finishers, respectively—all had long careers, epitomizing the heartiness of Arabian racehorses.

And, the stakes race included horses that would go on to be ambassadors for the Arabian breed off the track—in endurance, eventing, and as family horses.

All of this is why the Arabian Jockey Club expanded its mission in 2024: “The Arabian Jockey Club exists to provide fundamental infrastructure and promotion for Arabian Racing and to illustrate the value of Race-bred Arabians in disciplines beyond racing.”

The AJC celebrates the journey of from their foundation in racing to the many possibilities their athleticism, versatility, and heartiness offer off the track.

The first Arabian horse races I announced were at Los Alamitos Race Course and in England in the early 2000s. My involvement with Arabians really took off when I was reunited with the breed during my first full-time announcing job at Bally's Arapahoe Park starting in 2011. I was also doing publicity for Arapahoe and helped the track be recognized by horse racing and sports media through my promotion of Arabian racing champions that came to Colorado, like TM Fred Texas, TM Super Bird, Mahra T, Ms Dixie, Paddys Day, So Big Is Better, Quick Sand AA, and RB Texas Hold Em. That got me noticed by Arabian Jockey Club President Kathy Smoke, who hired me to promote Arabian racing on behalf of the AJC starting in 2016. I’m grateful for how that’s now taken me around the world. This race, the final one I announced at Arapahoe in 2023, holds a special place because it takes me back to my roots. Plus, it includes our horse RB Rathowayne, who came to our farm later that year and has become an eventer.

Today celebrates the two most important people in my life. I proposed to Ashley at Churchill Downs six years ago, and that meant that I would have Chase in my family, too. Since this year’s Father’s Day coincides with the six-year anniversary of when Ashley and I got engaged at The President Cup, I thought I’d also share when our family attended the same race together at the Preakness Stakes at Pimlico Race Course four years later. We gave Chase a camera, and I used some of his footage for AJC TV. I’m thankful for their Father’s Day wishes today, and they also deserve to be celebrated today because I wouldn’t be who I am without them.
