Love to see this: Girl Scout Troop 20109 met this morning in Ripley to donate their remaining cookies (about 20 cases) from their annual season to the FedEx House for Le Bonheur Childrens Hospital in Memphis. 18-Wheeler Crash Closes I-20 West in Hinds County. Prayers for the driver.

The Mississippi Highway Patrol is investigating a crash involving an 18-wheeler on I-20 West near mile marker 19 in Hinds County. The driver was transported to a local hospital with unknown injuries. Both westbound lanes are currently closed, and drivers are urged to use caution as emergency crews work to clear the scene.

Two Columbus Men Who Were Out on Felony Bond Charged in Armed Robbery

Two Columbus men have been arrested and charged with armed robbery following an incident on Friday, July 11, 2025.

Deputies with the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office responded to Baptist Memorial Hospital after a robbery victim reported being assaulted and robbed at gunpoint. The victim told investigators he had given a man a ride from a local store to a barbershop and then to an apartment complex, where a second suspect approached and struck him in the face with a pistol before stealing his phone, wallet, and debit card.

Columbus Police initially led the investigation and arrested 18-year-old Jakorey Deontae Gibbs, who was found in possession of the victim’s debit card. The victim later clarified that the robbery occurred at an apartment complex on Williams Roberts Road, placing the location under county jurisdiction. Lowndes County investigators then took over the case.

During questioning, Gibbs identified 21-year-old Jaylin Dashawn Hodges as the second suspect. Hodges was arrested on Tuesday, July 15, at his residence on Miley Loop. Both men are now charged with armed robbery and are being held at the Lowndes County Adult Detention Center on $100,000 bond each.

Both suspects were already out on bond for previous felony charges, including robbery and aggravated assault. Authorities are now working with the District Attorney’s Office to revoke their bonds.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office or Golden Triangle Crime Stoppers. Tips can be submitted anonymously and may be eligible for a cash reward
