Heads up, we are having trouble with wind data from our anemometer today. Rest assured, it is breezy today (not calm) like it says on the website! Expect southwest winds gusting to 25mph through the day. Winds subside tonight.

A RED FLAG WARNING is in effect for the area, and much of MN today. Low humidity, windy, already dry conditions, and a chance for lightning with some passing showers this afternoon has increased the risk of fire. Refrain from outdoor burning today and tonight!

It is true! A WINTER STORM WATCH has been posted for our area Sunday AM through early Monday. 4-8" of heavy, wet snow possible. Does it seem like weather is on annual repeat? Some of you have written in regarding our wind reports being offline. We have been troubleshooting our anemometer, and it looks like we need to get it replaced. Sorry for the inconvenience!

We can’t stress enough to take heed to the warnings today. STAY HOME. Area roads are treacherous with ice and wet snow. Rosemount Police Department has made recent warnings about Hwy 3 being impassable south of Co 42. Not “Lakeville” but definitely our area.

Spring Update! We have turned over the website to "warm season mode", and removed snow totals. Fingers crossed, but we believe we have seen our last measurable snowfall. This season was a doozy -- 65.5" of total measured snow here! Most fell in February, of course. It did not break our station record from 2010-2011 of 88.5", however. Also, notably, it is short by a few inches, of the official snowfall measurements by the NWS at MSP airport.

The “S” has arrived! Snow/sleet/rain will dominate today and tonight as we are on the cold/back side of a low pressure system that will move from Srn IA to Nrn WI today, and then across Lk Superior overnight. The whole time spinning back winter precip to us. 1/2” slush on grass tops.

15/10/2018

Breeze is helping to dry things out for our farmers! However, it will remain below average for temps all week long.

08/10/2018

Latest models and predictions pretty solid on steady rainfall beginning in the early am Monday, continuing through Tues PM. 4-6" storm totals possible for our area! Hence FLOOD WATCH posted. Be careful driving!

Lots of questions tonight re: sirens. Dakota County Emergency Communications Center. runs sirens in Lakeville. They will activate for areas of the county under tornado warnings or severe thunderstorms with sustained winds 70mph or stronger. The activations are localized as well — meaning residents in West St. Paul won’t hear sirens for a warning affecting only folks in Miesville. Here is the policy.

The most common and widely recognized method of warning is through the use of outdoor warning sirens. They are used by communities for a variety of purposes, including:
