Thanks to Pat Conaghan MP and Senator Perin Davey for their ongoing support of the Australian children's content industry, recognising the importance of Australian stories (series and films) for Aussie kids!

It was great to attend the opening of the Australian Children’s Content Summit at Pacific Bay in Coffs Harbour yesterday! 🎬

What a fantastic opportunity to connect with some of the best in the industry and discuss the future of Aussie kids' content.
From the ABC to Disney and NITV, the sessions were full of valuable insights and ideas, and I enjoyed some excellent conversations with talented and passionate people in the industry.

A big thank you to everyone who made the summit such a success. 🙌

Looking forward to seeing how this will shape the shows our kids love to watch!

It's ten years since Sticky Pictures TV worked on Dennis The Menace & Gnasher with Red Kite Animation. We made 104 episodes and 52 shorts over two seasons. The shorts were 60 second bites and a few were written by Australian writers like this one. Spot on for Sydney summers where ice-cream vans always pop up at the right (or wrong for many) time😁

The Nats have been strong supporters of Australian stories, and in particular for Australian childrens content. Thanks to Gurmesh Singh MP for fighting the good fight, especially for regional NSW content producers.

Flashback Friday. We made a series called Me & My Monsters in 2009. This was the film clip we produced with the theme song. It's an ear worm 😃

Sticky Pictures is excited to be working with the legendary Hollywood film producer Mike Medavoy and industry guru Keith Chapman on our film "The Thorn in the Crown". Mike has an incredible track record, from One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest to Black Swan, with 17 of his films nominated for Academy Awards, of which 7 have won the Best Picture Oscar. Sharing the development journey with Morgan Smallbone (Quick Sticks), Pascal Mercay, Pete Coogan, Mike and the truly wonderful Keith has been the best! Now to get this film financed!

EXCLUSIVE: Hot on the heels of Charles III coronation, Mike Medavoy and Keith Chapman are boarding the producing team for the Charles I & II historical epic, The Thorn in the Crown. The Thorn i…

Flashback Friday. In 2009 we produced a series of shorts for SBS called Monster Auditions. Created by Suren Perera & Stu Connolly, they were short animated monologues of monsters who are visiting a life-coach. Scary Therapy, a short film based on Monster Auditions shorts was selected for many festivals including Annecy Animation Festival, SICAF, Flickerfest, London International Animation Festival and Melbourne International Film Festival. Flashback Friday. The other short we made for Nickelodeon was Louie's Lunch which was inspired by kids having smelly lunches at school that no one wanted to swap with. Deane Taylor directed this & the voices included Lee Perry, Robert Adams and three Gravas girls. Cindy Scharka animated with a score by Nick Wales.

Flashback Friday. In 2007 Sticky Pictures TV made some animated shorts for a Nickelodeon Australia program. One of these was Herb & Ray's Yum, a tale of two teens with a cooking show where anything (and everything) goes. Created by Sticky's and award winning director Pete Candeland the concept was inspired more by Cheech & Chong and Wayne's World than fine dining. Behold the fearsome wasabi challenge!

Thanks Senator Catryna Bilyk for your ongoing support!

Children’s stories on screen – this is an area close to my heart. The value of locally made, original screen stories for Australian children has long been recognised in this country. Australian children’s series are broadcast in over 100 countries and have won numerous international awards.

However, there are real challenges to providing high-quality, original and distinctly Australian screen content for children. It’s expensive, and also it’s difficult to monetise because of restrictions on advertising during children’s programs, and competitive pricing of overseas programs.

So it’s great to have advocates like Suzanna Ryan, CEO of SLR Productions and Donna Andrews from Sticky Pictures, who dropped in to see me this week. They are passionate about making sure our kids grow up seeing their own stories and experiences reflected on screen, in familiar locations, and with our distinctive Aussie mannerisms and humour.

Well done ladies – keep up the good work!

This week I joined Screen Producers Australia in Canberra to lobby our politicians on the importance of Australian stories on Australian screens. An intense, productive week with back-to-back meetings, dinners, a cocktail event, and even a chat with Prime Minister Anthony Albanese. Thanks to a very poor decision by the previous government (Paul Fletcher), there is no longer a requirement for Australian children’s content on ANY platform. We are pushing for a local content quota, with a sub quota for Aussie kids. We still have a way to go, but at least we have a government that appreciates Australian drama and production for all age groups. We’ll keep lobbying!
