FREE MRT RIDE FOR PWDs & SENIOR CITIZENS 🚆♿️

Commuters with disabilities and senior citizens can ride the MRT-3 and LRT- 2 lines for free from July 17 to 23 in celebration of National Disability Rights Week, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) confirmed.

The free rides are available during peak hours—7:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. daily. To avail of the offer, persons with disabilities (PWDs) only need to present a valid PWD ID at any MRT-3 station gate.

This initiative supports President Bongbong Marcos Jr.’s directive to ease transportation costs and reflects MRT-3 management’s commitment to inclusive, accessible transit services.

Outside of rush hour, PWDs and senior citizens will still enjoy the standard 50% fare discount.

Spanning from North Avenue in Quezon City to Taft Avenue in Pasay, MRT-3 is one of Metro Manila’s busiest railway lines.

Recent upgrades have enhanced its accessibility, from elevators and ramps to designated priority seating—making it more commuter-friendly for those with mobility challenges.

This limited-time free ride program serves as a step forward in creating a more equitable and inclusive public transportation system for all.

Animal Kingdom Foundation (AKF), in coordination with CIDG Pangasinan and Soi Dog Foundation, successfully shut down an illegal dog meat operation in Pangasinan earlier this month.

One dog, Rosa, survived the horrifying ordeal—rescued just moments before slaughter. Found inside a sack but thankfully unmuzzled, she had been picked up by a trader to be served at a birthday celebration.

Another dog, Ron, wasn’t as fortunate. According to AKF’s heartbreaking account, Ron was sold by his owner for only ₱500. He was tied up, gagged with metal wire, and stuffed into a sack.

The story ignited strong emotions online. “I hope karma finds the owner and traders—and stays with them forever,” one netizen wrote. Another said, “Animals are better than humans. They’re incomparable.” A third added, “I’m so sorry for the cruelty of this world. The best I can do is love and be their voice.”

Now safe, Rosa is recovering and stands as a symbol of hope. AKF urges the public to report suspicious activity and support their mission: “Your shares, donations, and voices save lives.”

Together, they aim to bring more offenders to justice—and end this cruelty for good.

Entrepreneur Josh Mojica, the luxury car driver who went viral for filming himself while driving along EDSA, is now facing serious consequences and asking for leniency.

Mojica appeared before the Land Transportation Office–Intelligence and Investigation Division (LTO-IID) on July 10, accompanied by his lawyer, Atty. Jose Marie Fabella.

His legal team argued that Mojica is a first-time offender and had no intention to endanger others, despite the viral stunt.

LTO-IID chief Renante Militante clarified that the agency would impose its own decision. Mojica’s license is already under a 90-day preventive suspension, and his car is under “alarm status,” meaning it cannot be used until the case is resolved.

Mojica admitted to reckless and distracted driving, and to being an improper person to operate a vehicle. He surrendered his license and revealed that his P4.9M second-hand sports car was used for the now-infamous clip.

He said the video was meant to inspire young people, but acknowledged it was a mistake.

The case is now pending official resolution.

K-drama star Byeon Woo-seok has officially landed the lead role in the live-action adaptation of the hit web novel and anime "Solo Leveling," coming soon to Netflix.

Announced on July 10, Netflix confirmed Byeon will portray Sung Jin-woo, the once-weak hunter who gains extraordinary powers and becomes humanity’s final hope.

Known for his "manjjitnam" visuals (Korean slang for “man straight out of a comic”), Byeon is expected to deliver a performance that blends emotion and action.

Originally written by Chugong, "Solo Leveling: debuted as a web novel in 2016, later expanding into a webtoon, mobile game, and an anime that won “Anime of the Year” at the 2025 Crunchyroll Awards.

The live-action version will be co-directed by Lee Hae-jun ("Like a Virgin") and Kim Byung-seo ("Along With the Gods"), promising top-tier VFX and heart-racing dungeon battles.

Byeon first gained fame as a model before making waves with Lovely Runner in 2024. He also starred in Record of Youth and Strong Girl Nam-soon, and is set to appear in The 21st Century Grand Prince’s Wife.

THE STRUGGLE IS REAL, SUNOO 😭🛜

ENHYPEN’s Sunoo experienced firsthand what many Filipinos endure daily—slow internet.

While attending the grand opening of 8seconds Philippines at SM Mall of Asia on July 9, the K-pop star, who serves as the brand’s global ambassador, tried to go live on social media to thank fans.

But despite the huge, energetic crowd, his livestream wouldn’t cooperate.

The stream repeatedly froze, lagged, and failed to show fan comments. After four failed attempts, a frustrated Sunoo said, “I think I’m going to cry right now.”

Starting July 1, major banks began applying a flat 20% final withholding tax (FWT) on interest earned from all deposit products. This comes after the Capital Markets Efficiency Promotion Act (CMEPA), or Republic Act 12214, officially took effect.

Under this new law, both peso and foreign currency accounts—including time deposits and savings—are now taxed at the same 20% rate, regardless of term or currency. This replaces the previous system, which had different rates depending on how long the money was kept.

Peso time deposits and bonds over five years, which were previously tax-free, are now covered by the new tax rate. For foreign currency accounts, the tax increased from 15% to 20%.

Banks say CMEPA is meant to simplify things, align the country with global standards, and make it easier for people to invest locally. The good news? If you made placements before July 1, the old tax rates still apply until those mature. And if you have a valid tax exemption from the BIR, that still holds.

FINALLY, THEY'RE BACK AND COMPLETE 🤩

IV of Spades just made a major comeback—and fans are still reeling. After more than five years of silence, the band surprised everyone with a new single called “Aura”—and yes, former vocalist Unique Salonga is back in the mix.

The music video shows Unique reuniting with Zild Benitez, Blaster Silonga, and Badjao de Castro, playfully roaming a hillside under clear skies. It’s their first release together since Unique left in 2018 to pursue a solo career.

The track runs five minutes long, with a dreamy chorus that goes: “Tingnan natin nang husto ang makulay kong mundo… yayakapin nang buo.” It’s a poetic return that captures the band’s signature charm with a touch of nostalgia.

PH REJOINING THE ICC? NOT YET, SAYS DFA

The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) has confirmed that Malacañang has not issued any directive to rejoin the International Criminal Court (ICC)—despite growing public discussions and speculation.

In a March statement, the DFA clarified that while the topic is being internally reviewed, no formal action or policy shift has been made. As of now, there is no executive directive or legislative movement pushing for reentry into the ICC.

The Philippines officially withdrew from the ICC in 2019, but the court still retains jurisdiction over alleged crimes committed during the country’s membership, especially during the controversial Duterte administration’s war on drugs.

Calls to rejoin have resurfaced as the ICC investigation continues. However, officials emphasize that any decision to return must come from both executive approval and congressional support, neither of which is in motion.

For now, ICC reentry remains a national debate—not a policy direction.
