President has the intentions to work towards legalizing *****na on a federal level following next month’s midterm races, Rep. Dana Rohrabacher, California , stated this past Thursday.

The Trump administration has made a “solid commitment” to change ma*****na regulations, and the president has expressed his views in support of federally legalizing the cannabis for medical use, Mr. Rohrabachertold Fox Business Channel.

“I have been talking to people inside the who know and inside the president’s entourage,” Mr. Rohrabacher stated, reported. “I have talked to them at length. I have been reassured that the president intends on keeping his campaign promise.

“I would expect after the election we will sit down and we’ll start hammering out something that is specific and real,” he added. “It could be as early as spring of 2019, but definitely in the next legislative session.”

Mr. Trump was not planning on campaigning for legalizing ma*****na, yet he stated while running that he wanted states to be in control and able to pass laws permitting the plant in spite of federal prohibition.

“The *****na thing is such a big thing. I think should happen — right? Don’t we agree? I think so,” he said in 2015. “I think that should be a state issue, state by state.”

HOW W**D KEEPS YOU SKINNY: WHAT RESEARCHERS SAY ABOUT MA*****NA, WEIGHT, & DIABETES

No, we’re not joking! W**d may be notorious for the munchies, late night trips to the drive-through, and many an hour stuck on the sofa, but researchers are beginning to wonder: why aren’t more cannabis users suffering from obesity? We’re about to give you all you need to know about how w**d keeps you skinny: what researchers say about ma*****na, weight, and diabetes.

Turns out, regular ma*****na consumers have lower BMIs, a reduced risk of obesity, and perhaps even an easier time managing their weight.

Interesting, right? Here’s the scoop on how it all works:

The Perks of Being A Cannabis Consumer

Smaller Waistlines

Scientists at the University of Nebraska, the Harvard School of Public Health, and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center found that ma*****na users had a smaller waist circumference than those who had never used cannabis.

Another 2011 study published in the American Journal of Epidemiology surveyed over 52,000 participants and found that overall, rates of obesity are about one-third lower among cannabis users. A bit of a conundrum, since on average, w**d lovers consume around 600 more calories per day.

More Good Cholesterol

A study published last year in Obesity measured data from over 700 members of Canada’s Inuit community and found that on average, regular cannabis users had increased levels of High-Density Lipoprotein Cholesterol HDL-C (good cholesterol) and slightly lower levels of Low-Density Lipoprotein Cholesterol LDL-C (bad cholesterol).

Jump-Started Metabolism

Turns out, the active component of cannabis may help kick your metabolism into overdrive. Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) stimulates the production of a little hormone called ghrelin. Ghrelin is well known to the science community as a potent appetite stimulator. In fact, it’s so potent that it’s often called “the hunger hormone.” However, while this sneaky little compound is what drives us to eat, ghrelin also plays a vital role in helping our bodies break down and metabolize carbohydrates.

So, w**d may give us the munchies, but it also helps us better metabolize our food by stimulating the compounds necessary to break it down.

How Is All This Possible?

insulinPhoto Credit: Wikimedia

Three words: Fasting. Insulin. Levels. “Fasting insulin” refers to the insulin in your body prior to eating. Insulin is the hormone that helps our bodies regulate glucose, or blood sugars. These blood sugars provide vital energy for our cells, enabling them to function properly and keep us healthy.

Extremely low levels of fasting insulin is a sign of Type 1 diabetes, where the body cannot produce enough insulin naturally to provide cells with energy. However, fasting insulin levels that are too high are also dangerous, leading to insulin resistance. Insulin resistance is the hallmark signifier of Type 2 diabetes.

In studying over 4,600 test subjects, researchers found that regular ma*****na users had fasting insulin levels up to 16% lower than their non-using counterparts. The same 2013 study also showed that the herb-friendly test subjects had a 17% lower levels of insulin resistance.

Too much insulin also promotes weight gain, as excess sugars are converted into stored fat. Too much excess stored fat leads to obesity. So far, obesity has been targeted as the number one cause of insulin resistance that leads to Type 2 diabetes.

The research emerging about the interplay between cannabinoids and insulin regulation may lead to some major breakthroughs in the prevention of obesity and Type 2 diabetes, which both are correlated to high levels of unused blood sugars that are ultimately stored as fat.

balance

It’s All About Balance

In conjunction with a healthy diet and regular exercise (even something as simple as an evening walk or an active lifestyle), some ma*****na activists are turning to cannabis to help maintain a healthy weight.

“When you work with The Ma*****na Diet you will watch your cravings drop away, and your mind become awake, aware, and creative,” explains Art Glass, Cannabis Activist and author of The Ma*****na Diet. “Not only will it help you lose weight, but it will help you will find that you love the person that you are.”

Art wrote the eBook after losing 65 lbs using his own method. While the diet does incorporate cannabis, Art also walks readers through a process of healthy plant-based eating and simple exercise routines (hilariously termed as “sofa exercises”).

So, was it the w**d or was it the healthy food and exercise? At this point, it looks like a good combination of all three.

Though no formal research has been done to put The Ma*****na Diet to the official scientific test, one thing is certain: ma*****na users are in fact skinnier than average, with lower BMIs, smaller waistlines, and less risk of developing obesity and diabetes.

Police seized 227 ma*****na plants in June raid of home on M-40 in Allegan County
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WZZM) – One of two men linked to elaborate ma*****na grow operations in Allegan and Van Buren counties pleaded guilty for his role in the conspiracy that put more than 220 pounds of ma*****na on the streets.

Josue Salazar appeared in U.S. District Court in Grand Rapids Friday where he admitted to growing ma*****na since 2011. He faces up to 20 years in prison and a $1 million fine when he returns for sentencing in March.
Co-defendant Ernest Rafael Arias was indicted last week for conspiring to grow ma*****na. His case has been set for trial. Grow operations linked to the pair yielded between 220 and 799 pounds of ma*****na, court records show.
The investigation got underway in April when the West Michigan Enforcement Team (WEMET) received a tip about ma*****na being grown in a home on M-40 in Allegan County.
When officers went there, they detected a strong scent of ma*****na while standing at the front door. Utility records showed electrical use at the home was abnormally high, a criminal complaint says.
Officers returned in June and three men, including Salazar, ran from the house into nearby woods. Salazar was arrested after a brief chase.
Arias was nabbed when he slipped and fell. Police got a search warrant and entered the home where they found an "elaborate, multi-room ma*****na grow operation,'' court records show.
WEMET officers seized 227 ma*****na plants in various stages of growth, 40 pounds of processed ma*****na, grow lights, fans, timers and an irrigation system. Officers also found calendars going back to 2011 with detailed information about the ma*****na grow.
Police found inside a truck an electrical bill in Salazar's name for a house in Van Buren County. A search of that house found a ma*****na grow operation similar to the Allegan County site.

TROUBLE FOR TRIMMERS
IN THE TRIANGLE!

“No work here, keep moving,” say signs in store windows greeting nomadic groups of mostly young people who arrive in the Emerald Triangle, California’s legendary pot-growing counties of Mendocino, Humboldt and Trinity, every fall hoping to find jobs harvesting and processing cannabis. Called “trimmigrants” by the locals, the travelers come to experience ma*****na mecca, looking to take part in the epic haul of more than 100,000 plants grown in Humboldt every year. Flooding small towns like Garberville, Laytonville and Redway, these travelers seek jobs that might pay $20 an hour for several weeks straight, painstakingly snipping the sugar leaves away from buds, manicuring them for sale in dispensaries or for out-of-state export.

County.

However, for those without local connections, the reality is that it’s tough to find work, and there are many more migratory trimmers than there are jobs. The influx of trimmigrants brings big-city problems to these bucolic towns, since the lack of housing and services leaves most would-be pot processors living on the streets or camping illegally in the woods. Homeless people tripping on acid have threatened residents, and many parents are afraid to let their children walk home from the school bus by themselves.

Citing garbage, loitering, nuisance behavior and out-of-control dogs, local residents Tara and Melissa Sutherland have taken action against disrespectful travelers, telling journalist Kym Kemp that “In the middle of daylight, there was some guy ma********ng, other people smoking pot right there on the sidewalks, blocking the sidewalks, [and] their dogs not being on leashes.”

Travelers from all over the world camp on small town streets looking for working trimming cannabis.

The sisters have started a citizen’s action group called “Take Back Our Town,” and are now patrolling the streets, asking travelers to pick up litter, clean up after their dogs and keep them leashed, and to not block local businesses. “When you have to walk around a crowd of people smoking pot in our doorways just to go into the bank to pay your bills, it’s overwhelming and I can see why so many people are frustrated and fed up with it,” says Tara Sutherland when interviewed by phone. “We’re not out there to be rude to people or disrespect them, but we want people to respect our towns and communities. We’re out there trying to help people and let them know our concerns.”

Increasing tensions between homeless people and local residents have erupted in violence recently, with a group of travelers being attacked by a gang of youths wielding a bat, and visitors being targeted by paintball guns. Kym Kemp reports a vehicle being driven into a homeless camp and “running over sleeping bags without knowing whether or not someone was in them.”

Describing an understaffed police department unable to enforce existing laws against vagrancy and nuisance behavior, Tara hopes citizen action will defuse the situation and help avoid any further escalation of violence. “I’ve heard people say they’re so sick of it that they want to go to town and beat up all the homeless, and it doesn’t have to come down to that.”

Emerald Triangle residents are infuriated by illegal campers who trash the forest.

Local homeless activist Debra Carey doesn’t find the actions of Take Back Our Town to be helpful. “Our community has a history of vigilantism and it kind of ramps it up for us,” she saying, describing a situation where local businesspeople that benefit from the cannabis industry dislike the atmosphere created by the trimmigrants.

“The whole county is known for growing ma*****na and we have a whole industry here. People come to work in Humboldt County and are met with a really tough situation. There’s no place to legally sleep… food is scarce, and we’ve lost common ground, so people are camping on private property or they are downtown and that creates a problem for the community every year.”

Debra believes a solution could be found by establishing a place for people to legally camp, saying that “having a place to be” with shower and toilet facilities, would lessen the tensions between travelers and local residents. “Everywhere there’s no common ground left, they’re stuck sitting on business’ front doors, and then these businesspeople in turn make these types of groups.”

Take Back Our Town claims that travelers loitering, blocking businesses and smoking on the street make everyday life difficult for local residents.

Most local residents believe that offering any type of services or legal camping will just attract more people without jobs or steady income. Carey explains that there are no homeless shelters or resources in Southern Humboldt, and affordable housing stock is scarce due to demand for indoor cultivation space. “We need to put people instead of plants in the houses,” Debra says, estimating that there are usually 125 to 140 un-housed individuals living around Garberville, with the population peaking during the trimming season at around 500.

While cold weather and winter rains usually motivate travelers to leave town, the destruction from the Valley Fire prompted people from Lake and Calaveras counties to seek shelter elsewhere, adding to demand for housing and jobs. “What we need to do is work together as a community and find some solutions now,” Carey says, before the situation continues to worsen.

For those intent on traveling to the Emerald Triangle, locals advise securing a job before you arrive. Most growers aren’t going to hire someone they’ve never met before, since strangers pose a security risk when valuable plants are being processed. There are obvious safety concerns for trimmigrants as well, and police caution against going to a remote grow-op that might not have cell service or an easy escape route. Many people have gone missing in the Humboldt hills or worse. Avoid illegal encampments, such as Garberville’s “Hippie Hill,” which is rife with violence, hard drug overdoses and human waste.

It’s not clear when the situation in Humboldt will improve, but its residents are fed up with the influx of travelers seeking to party on the streets. Take Back Our Town is organizing a program to fund bus tickets for people seeking to leave for homeless shelters or rehab facilities, and will continue to walk through town confronting unruly visitors. “We know we can’t clean up the streets and make everyone leave, we don’t want everyone to leave,” Tara Sutherland says, “we want everyone to be happy together, but it’s not going to work unless everyone actually works together and respects our town.”

RE**ER MADNESS FOR REAL!!

"Lives Are at Stake": GOP Senator Suggests Ma*****na Can Be Deadly

Alabama Republican Sen. Jeff Sessions does a 21st Century version of Re**er Madness as he calls for harsher drug sentences.

A U.S. senator on Thursday connected President Barack Obama’s comments on ma*****na to drug overdose deaths.

Amid a lengthy speech calling for increased penalties for drug offenders, Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL) noted that Obama had admitted to smoking ma*****na. Last year, the president said that ma*****na is not more dangerous than alcohol.

“I think it needs to be said that the president should never have said smoking ma*****na is like smoking ci******es: ‘Oh, I wish I hadn’t done it,’ Sessions said on the Senate floor. “That is the kind of message people hear. Now we have states legalizing it, and they are already talking about recriminalizing it. It is a mistake. We have seen that experiment before. Lives are at stake.”

The Republican senator linked ma*****na to fatal overdoses — even though experts say it is impossible to die from consuming too much of the drug.

“The Drug Enforcement Administration called me recently and told me that 120 people a day are dying of a drug overdose in America,” he continued. “How many of them have serious brain injuries as a result of those overdoses? Our Presiding Officer, Dr. Cassidy, has been around emergency rooms. How many people are taken to emergency rooms and at what great cost to our communities? How many lives are disrupted? How many children are in broken homes? How many people had to leave their home because one spouse or the other has spent all the family money on drugs to support a habit? How many children have been abandoned, went to bed without food because of addiction in their family?”

Sessions said the federal government should take harsher actions to combat drug use.

“These are serious matters,” he remarked. “We made tremendous progress. The murder rate in America dropped by over 50 percent since the 1980s when Ronald Reagan said ‘just say no’ and started a War on Crime. He appointed me as the U.S. attorney in Alabama. I know what we did. And the federal government led the way with tough sentencing, eliminating parole, targeting dangerous drugs in effective ways, and states and local governments followed.”

“I am worried about it,” Sessions said. “It is just tragic to me that we are making the same mistakes we made in the 1960s and 1970s. According to new data, 4.3 million people abuse or are dependent on ma*****na. Ma*****na is stronger today–several times stronger–than the ma*****na of the 1960s, and it does impact people adversely.”
