Aysha Joy Samuel in Tatort Dresden as Jasmin Hoffmann

16-year-old Lilly-Marie (Dilara Aylin Ziem) and her boyfriend Pascal (Florian Geißelmann) escape from the youth home “Siebenschläfer” in the middle of the night. The next morning, Lilly’s body is discovered in a nearby lake – Pascal has vanished without a trace. Dresden investigators Leonie Winkler (Cornelia Gröschel) and Peter Michael Schnabel(Martin Brambach) take on the case and launch a manhunt for the 17-year-old.

At first glance, the youth home “Siebenschläfer” appears to be a model institution. Under the direction of Saskia Rühe(Silvina Buchbauer), young people live here who have faced difficult circumstances in their lives. Educator Jasmin Hoffmann (Aysha Joy Samuel) is deeply affected by Lilly’s death. She reports that Pascal was considered difficult and aggressive. For this reason, like other children at the home, he was in therapy with psychiatrist Lukas Brückner (Hanno Koffler).

While the search for Pascal is in full swing, another crime occurs: Torsten Hess (Peter Moltzen), head of department at the youth welfare office, is found murdered.

Ulrich Köhler’s new film is a multi-layered reflection on art, morality, and colonialism. During the turbulent shoot of a controversial new adaptation of Medea in Senegal, actress Maja (Maren Eggert) escapes into an affair with her co-star Nourou (Jean-Christophe Folly). Months later, they meet again at the film’s premiere in Berlin. Their feelings for each other rekindle, but a racist incident with a security guard overshadows the reunion. The tensions only grow as everyone tries to do the right thing. And as the ancient tragedy on screen intensifies, art and life begin to blur.

Since his debut Bungalow (2002), Ulrich Köhler has been regarded as one of the key representatives of the so-called “Berlin School.” His film A Voluntary Year (Das freiwillige Jahr) screened at Filmfest Hamburg in 2019 and won the Hamburg Producing Award for German TV Productions.
