In a rare act of bipartisanship, Congressional Republicans and Democrats sent a bill to Ban TikTok within a year (if they don't sell it) to the Democratic President who signed it into law.
The fear was the potential access to and misuse of Americans' data by the Chinese government. While that's an understandable concern on its own, what about the actual access to and misuse of Americans' data committed daily by nearly every corporately controlled app (and device) there is?
It would have been far more beneficial for Americans if our leaders had passed laws to protect our privacy, restrict what companies can do with our data, and require them to provide options to opt-out.
This could have been the solution, not only to concerns about TikTok, but also to the biggest threat of the information age to Americans today.
