Over the past 5 years God has been taking me on a journey to understanding exactly how much he loves each and every one of us. This week he has been putting on my heart what Jesus said in John 13:34-35 A new commandment I give to you: love one another as I have loved you. So you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples. If you love one another.
As I reflected on this I came up with some thoughts I want to share with you.
There is a disturbing trend not only in our world but also within the Christian community. We have become so tribal that we aren’t treating each other with love as Jesus told us to. Instead we with our 1,000’s of denominations all interpreting the scriptures differently hold onto the firm belief that we have it correct and everyone else is wrong. I am guilty of this myself and have defended my position with everything that I’ve got. God has led me to the above scripture and I has led me to these thoughts.



We’re so tribal that we’ve stopped loving each other. We’re so arrogant that we believe we’re the only ones who have interpreted scripture correctly. I’ve even heard from a Pastor that their denomination is the only true faith.



We have “Christian” leaders writing articles and doing podcasts/YouTube videos “exposing heresy from other Christian Leaders”. Or coming just speaking out against other denominations. I ask, is this Love?



We are so focused on being “biblical” that we’re forgetting about loving each other. We’re so focused on fighting against whatever worldly thing it is that is important to us that we’re forgetting the fundamental part that made Jesus so radical. Love



He loved all those he encountered. I’m positive that even his encounters with the Pharisees he showed them love. I am also positive that that would have pi**ed them off.



So here’s the major thing that I’ve learned over the past 5 years and I am positive that this one thing is the thing that changes hearts. Love!!! Never 1 time did the fear of hell and eternal torment stop me from looking at p**n, drinking to excess, lusting etc. Name whatever struggle you want it never stopped me or anyone that I know.



In the fall of 2020 while attending a ManAlive Expedition in Texas (A shameless plug for our ministry) during a healing prayer session God revealed to me one of my biggest wounds was an abandonment wound and while working through that I clearly heard the voice of the father say to me Bill you are my son and I love you. That was the single most transformative moment of my life. That experience with God did more to heal my heart than a lifetime of “biblical teaching”



Bottom line is Jesus came and showed us the true heart of God towards us. He showed us how loved we are and he changed the whole world with his message of love. Lets continue what he gave us and love all of those we come into contact with. Lets stop all the infighting and calling each other heretics, and love each other just like the Father, Son and Holy Spirit love us. Lets stop trying to be right and lets get it right!
