Retro-back is a popular aesthetic nowadays. It turns out that the detailed 2D pixel art, Chiptune’s scramble soundtracks, and support and playability are timeless. An under-the-radar series that rocks retro aesthetics is Gotta Protectors, a multiplayer fusion of aerial action/tower defense/real-time strategy that has gained enthusiastic fans. Gotta Protectors: Cart of Darkness is the recent entry in the series and is a frantically fun and strategic adventure alone or with up to three companions.

Having assembled a team of three protectors and building their skills, they are sent to the actionfield to guard Princess Lola.

Everything that touches the light in Teardown is ready for you to damage it. Whether it’s heavily plastered brick walls or flimsy wooden sheds, Teardown offers you a variety of tools to blow up every little Pixel as you action your way through the handful of carefully designed playgrounds. It’s a game full of inventive ideas and a simple and satisfying premise – even if it’s hampered by a campaign that suffers from poor pacing. Fortunately, its premise has enough depth that makes Teardown a destructive sandbox toy that encourages you to come back frequently.

This becomes even more evident when you reach Teardown much more interesting campaign objectives, many of which recontextualize.

If you were to make a plan for the ideal continuation of the video game, it would be a scheme for Rogue Legacy 2. The recent roguelite dungeon crawler from the developer Cellar Door Games retains everything that was fascinating in the original of 2015 and improves it with fantastic new additions. Having played the initial game, you will notice that the crispy actions and the satisfying gameplay loop of Rogue Legacy 2 are immediately familiar, but it does not take long for new wrinkles to appear, which significantly change each race in its ever-changing world.

This genetic variation makes every run through the sprawling castle feel fresh, but Rogue Legacy 2's chromosome lottery.
