Marie graduated from Union Grove High School in 1939 and from Mitchell Community College in Statesville, N.C., in 1940. She was married to J. Harold Mitchell for 61 years before his passing in 2015. Together they were members of First Baptist Church in Winter Park, Fla., since 1960. She served the church for decades on the hospitality committee — planning, organizing, decorating and serving receptions, banquets and gatherings of all kinds. Marie was a lifetime artist, continuously learning new crafts, sewing, and painting.

Ruth was a longtime member of Centre Presbyterian Church in Mooresville. She had a lifelong passion of using her spiritual gift of service, serving her church, family, friends and patients. Ruth was a registered nurse for 45 years, starting her career at Lowrance, moving to Lake Norman Regional and then retiring with Iredell Memorial Hospital.
