Marie graduated from Union Grove High School in 1939 and from Mitchell Community College in Statesville, N.C., in 1940. She was married to J. Harold Mitchell for 61 years before his passing in 2015. Together they were members of First Baptist Church in Winter Park, Fla., since 1960. She served the church for decades on the hospitality committee — planning, organizing, decorating and serving receptions, banquets and gatherings of all kinds. Marie was a lifetime artist, continuously learning new crafts, sewing, and painting.
