Some of my LinkedIn content performs much, much better than my average.
Every time the new LinkedIn Algorithm report drops, I have to re-wrestle with the question, “Why?”.
What’s the secret? How do I get my content to hit the most eyeballs 👀 on LinkedIn? Is it ...
🤔 Having more 🚶🏾♀️followers and connections?
🤨 Working my fingers overtime writing cold DMs? 😱
😧 Spending $$ on paid advertising? 🙈
No, no, no!
The current secret is to… […whispers ] “make LinkedIn content sharable!”
When content gets shared by someone else, it’s a strong signal to LinkedIn’s algorithm that the post is valuable.
In addition to the boost received from that person’s audience, the share itself triggers the LinkedIn algorithm to show that content to more second- and third-degree connections, and that – my friend – triggers exponential reach.
It also signals trust within the community of the person who shared – because we all know – we share cool, valuable, outstanding, and newsworthy content!
Regardless of what type of content you’re creating, I also want to share three great ways your current audience members can support you and your content:
🧨 Share, Send, and Save!
♻️ Sharing (aka Reposting): The most valuable type of share, this is when someone reposts your content with or without commentary to their own profile. It creates a new post that’s visible to their network and links back to your profile. This is how your content lands in front of fresh eyeballs! Suddenly you have a whole new audience and lifespan for your post.
⏩ Sending: This is when folks want to share your post directly with one other person (or a small group). It’s essentially like reposting but through DM’s.
🧷 Saving: Beyond sharing directly with others, saving a post is the ultimate signal of value. It tells LinkedIn that your content is worth revisiting, which the algorithm rewards with increased visibility.
🚫 What you want to avoid, is to “beg” for reposts or saves directly in the post itself. It might be viewed as engagement bait and can backfire by the algorithm and by the beg-ees [new word?].
