A Chairde, Part 8/12 of Dreamland radio show is available now on RTE 2XM (link in the bio). An intimate journey exploring contemporary music and landscape on Ireland's western edge.
This episode was recorded in Kilfenora, Co. Clare, first at the home studio of producer/artist / all-round-guru Enda Gallery. Enda played us a few songs which sound great despite being recorded on a first generation Zoom because of a power cut. Then we chatted to Willzee a wordsmith/actor/scriptwriter who refers to himself as a Trabuffer (Traveller blood, settled upbringing). Willzee then introduced Hazey Haze, who told us a bit about his Islandfield upbringing, how he got started rapping, and his approach to collaboration.
Ansin thíos an bóthar rud beag bhuail muid le Aindrias de Staic who brought us on a bilingual tour to the magical Ringfort in the corner of his field, and explained it's significance in both folklore and history.
About the project:
In the summer of 2023, as a small team, we set out on a road trip along the west coast of Ireland: from North Donegal to Cork, roughly following the tourist trail known as the Wild Atlantic Way.
Along the way, we met some amazing people, music makers and promoters, getting to know how, where they live, or where they are from, finds its way into their work. Exploring with them the joys and frustrations of living so far from the capital, and so far outside the mainstream.
DREAMLAND was funded by RTE 2XM and Coimisiún na Meán, with the Television License Fee.
Produced by Seán Ó Cuireáin. Music recorded and mixed by Robert Mulhern. Design, photo and video by Marcia Casturino. Research and production assistance by Jude Barriscale ( ) and Marcia Casturino.
