History Ireland History Ireland magazine has now been in production for just over 20 years.

Since 2004 it has been going from strength to strength, with a changeover to a full-colour format, a layout revamp and a move to bi-monthly publication in 2005. Each issue of History Ireland covers a wide variety of topics, from the earliest times to the present day, in an effort to give the reader a sense of the distant past but also to offer a contemporary edge. Every article is illustrated with photographs, maps or paintings to provide a vivid impression of the topic.

By Colum Kenny This fine watercolour of Sandycove Point, Co. Dublin, from the Dún Laoghaire side recently came to light at Adams Auctioneers. It includes ‘Joyce’s Tower’, as that structure is known today. Matthew Fortescue, part-time painter and otherwise an engineer with Guinness, dated it ....

New **History Ireland** out now.

Among the big stories (de Valera and hate mail, British Labour party & Northern Ireland) are some brilliant insights into other sources for Irish history.

Irish Film Institute (IFI) - 1915 & 1916 clips
These two clips were filmed as newsreels in the early twentieth century by British Pathé and the Topical Film Company. Held in British agency archives, they were added to the IFI Irish Film Archive in 2018

Meath County Council In the Kells Urban District Council collection is a Free Milk Scheme register dating from March 1935.

National Library of Ireland In 1552 an Irish office of arms was established, presided over by the newly created Ulster King of Arms. We have surviving records of seven visitations in Ireland, but there may have been others of which no records survive.
