I fundraised for my Whill C2 back in 2022 and it’s been the perfect chair for me especially having an assistance dog, a lot of the features make my life easier & smoother from easy lead access to treat storage!

I also have a code for as i’m an ambassador so use ‘Jeffie10’ for 10% off power chairs, scooters and accessories ♿️✨

[VD: various clips of jeffie in her whill with umbro her golden retriever cross yellow lab. the text on screen reads ‘why i love my whill c2 as an assistance dog handler
1. my chair is perfect height next to umbro
2. the whill handles different terrain with ease
3. the arms make moving umbros lead easy
4. the arms and backrest make it easy to manoeuvre
5. the basket is perfect for storing everything we need
umbros favourite thing is using the footplate as a head/bum rest! the whill is my perfect companion chair for me and my perfect companion

okay so this is a vulnerable one for me but I wanted to share my nursing journey where i’ve gone from nurse to patient. In 2009 i began studying at the and after navigating my health I finally graduated after having to take a year out due to illness

i then completed my first shift as registered nurse! i was so proud and excited to be working after being so unwell and worked in a local hospital primarily within acute medicine managing my pain and symptoms as best i could, i met great friends & colleagues here who were supportive and jokingly referred to me as the “phantom fainter”

after a few years i travelled to australia where i worked in aged care and then travelled but my health played up whilst here

after returning to the UK i began working in a large hospital primarily in burns and cardiology. i chose to work on the bank so i could choose when & which wards i worked on and worked across the hospital in various specialities. i loved working here, learnt so much and wouldn’t have left if it were in my control

i decided to go back to uni with the to top up my nursing degree. during this time my disability progressed massively, it was a lot to navigate and i began using a wheelchair and i had to leave hospital nursing which was devastating

i began working within private nursing in an attempt to keep nursing (this was a terrible idea but that’s another story!) during this time i got my first NHS wheelchair. i also began hydrotherapy which was a game changer for me but this was in the hospital i once worked in so stirred up complicated feelings

with every appointment, scan, test or hospital stay i feel a sense of loss being on the other side. a place that used to feel safe now often doesn’t and where i once had autonomy and authority i now at times feel dismissed or invalidated

i’m still grieving for the life i had and trying to make peace with losing my career as a nurse. i don’t think being the patient instead of the nurse will ever be easy for me, but i’m learning to accept it 🏥🩷

reminder that disabled people deserve access, it’s not a privilege it’s a right & we deserve to take up space ♿️✨
[ID: jeffie a ginger woman with curly hair in a pink dress sitting in her wheelchair taking a mirror selfie. there is pink text on screen which says ‘access is a right not a privilege’]

being a proud disabled person doesn’t mean your life is any easier, ableism & discrimination are still everywhere within our society which is hard to navigate alongside all the symptoms that come with disabilities

life has been tough lately and my body hasn’t been happy at all, my chronic pain & fatigue has definitely been worse. i’m hoping for better days as things warm up and more runs on the beach for Umbro 🌊
[ID: jeffie in stood on the beach with a walking stick smiling with her other arm out, Umbro her assistance dog is sat next to her looking around. the text on screen reads “accepting & being proud of your disability doesn’t make it any easier to navigate day to day]

we are not a burden and deserve to live, to thrive and to feel secure. our benefits system has already plunged people into poverty and hunger and these changes will make things so much worse.

we need everyone to come together and challenge these welfare cuts ♿️✨
[ID: a mirror selfie of jeffie in her wheelchair with the text - disabled people deserve dignity. - our worth is not dependent on our ability to work. - disabled people often wish we could work. - PIP is essential for disabled people to have independence. - PIP is not a luxury. - disabled people need non disabled folks to stand with us against welfare cuts.]

merry cripmas! here’s part two of my gift guide for your disabled friends & loved ones ♿️✨
[ID1: Jeffie sitting in her christmas dress in front of the tree. the wording reads a very merry cripmas gift guide part two
2: blue background with white snowflakes, tangle teazer everyday detangling cream spray - this spray is fantastic at helping to dematt hair and get our bad tangles, if i’m not able to wash mine or look after my curls it’s a life saver for helping sort it when i’m not able to wash it - ru introduced me to this one and we both love it, plus it smells great!
3:pink background with candycanes, make up - human beauty is a disabled owned business and their make up is fantastic! The eyeshadows are pigmented and gorgeous, the lip mask is a personal fave and all the packaging is accessible!
4:blue background with white snowflakes, - i’ve talked about safesip in the past and use them a lot at home, they’re really useful if you are prone to spilling drinks. the cover pops over your glass, you insert a straw and are good to go! these have saved me from spilling more times than i can count
5:pink background with candycanes ergonomic brushes - I originally bought these for my fiancée Ru to use for eyeliner application and they were game changers. now we use them for anything from crafting to make up! they’re much easier on your hands so less painful to use
6: blue background with white snowflakes, deodorant- I love this deodorant, it’s so gentle on the skin but actually works and works well. I find the scents great they’re not too powerful and there’s a good amount of choice. the applicator itself is also really well made and easy to use, i find this much more comfortable and easier to use on my hands than competitors too!]

2: blue background with snowflakes with the text heat pads, heat pads (with an image of one) are fantastic for helping with pain, the electric ones mean you can control
the amount of heat and for how long. these are better than hot water bottles imo (but that’s because i can’t be trusted to lift a kettle safely)
2:pink background with candy canes the text reads compression gloves (with a picture of a pair) again these are great for hand and wrist pain, i usually have a pair in my bag at all times!
3: blue background text: comfy life premium full body cleansing wipes (with a picture of some) these wipes are great for freshening up in between washes when it’s hard to shower or bathe . they’re really gentle and a staple in our disabled household !
4. pink background text reads microfibre towel pillow cover with a picture of one i cannot stress enough how much i love these, after washing my hair i’m always exhausted and need a rest . these protect your pillow and help dry your hair - win win!
5. blue background, text reads mini toothbrushes, with a picture of colegate wisps, i know this sounds random but if you have friends or loved ones who struggle with things like TMJ, jaw pain or depression these can be great. the small design means it’s easier to brush your teeth without having to open your mouth really wide when it hurts or they can be easier to grab if your mood means full brushing is too much !
