Portland’s Joel Noct trades in his usual lush gorgeous ambient textures for a slab of raw, driving hardware techno from the last Equalizer event at No Fun!

No one knows how to drift and dream like Joel Noct. His longform ambient compositions feel like he’s crafting misty glow worm snowglobes, full of fireflies and fairy lights, with his bare hands. His neon nocturnal dreamscapes are like orange sherbet portals to some mother-of-pearl astral dimension where all pain and fear have been outlawed, leaving you feeling fresh and renewed when you climb out of hyperstasis.

Live at EQ 250526 is like getting slingshot out of that pleasure garden pocket dimension into the darkest depths of deep space, where adventure awaits!, as Joel Noct forsakes his usual modular hypnosis for 45 minutes of stripped-down, streamlined tech house. Recorded live at Portland’s No Fun at Heterodox Records’ last Equalizer event. On Live at EQ, Noct proves he’s as adept at beatcraft as summoning honey-warm ambient music from his modular rig.

Live at EQ 250526 was recorded at Heterodox Records’ quarterly Equalizer event, a smorgasbord of third eye opening-live visuals and adventurous live electronic music. With HTX 148, listeners outside of the Pacific Northwest will have an opportunity to experience the singular imagination and magic of Portland’s unique electronic music scene.
