“WEEKEND SHOPPING ( special): z\w\a\r\t magazine Issue 25 by Max Kuiper

As the saying goes, “one man’s trash is another man’s treasure”.

Lo-fi zine z\w\a\r\t magazine pushes back the boundaries of publishing and printing, using low-quality materials (plastic, safety pins, photocopies, adhesive tape) as a base. From these disparate and inoffensive elements, its author Max Kuiper ventures into a quasi-alchemical composition to ultimately extract a medium of unconventional beauty. z\w\a\r\t magazine layers on paper, plastic, cardboard or VHS tape the extraction of all the energies contained in the colour Black. Each issue is unique and comes in a bespoke package. Some include audio and/or videotapes of homemade productions.

For fans of unique, hand-made and out-of-the-ordinary printing techniques.

Segment of the z\w\a\r\t magazine nr. 29 installation.

This segment consists of a print on a transparant A3 sheet of a found image of a blindfolded head; some strings flowing from the forehead: cassette tape, VHS tape, used typewriter ribbon.
The lights below the head are coming from a videoprojection on a transparant plastic surface on the other side of the room.
The movements of the lights on the wall where originally not planned, but surprisingly suiting for this segment, that has a history of translations:
First is was a text or poem on the impact \ the intention of sound \ a specific sound work by Les Horribles Travailleurs - on the perception: sounds are flowing like stings of cassettetape from the forehead into a landscape and touching the surfaces of objects and materials to bring them to a new life.
This text was translated into this visual segment, but what was missing where the actual impact of the sounds on the objects. Accidently, the lightplay on the wall by the video projection functioned unexpected and perfectly as a replacement of that impact.

L’exposition « Black Air » tire son nom d’un environnement électronique réalisé en 1968 par Aldo Tambellini et Otto Piene à partir de vidéos et de pneumatiques. Outre la réactivation de cette œuvre historique, elle comprend des installations et des performances spécialement conçues ainsi qu’une nouvelle publication.

Concept of Z\W\A\R\T magazine Nr. 9 \ Metanoia:
This magazine is an open work - a source for visual works and text works.
Part of the pages are transparent.
The reader\viewer can create a variety of images and texts by combining elements of the magazine and to alter the images by holding a page\ a combination of pages to different lights as background.
The magazine can be a journey between Black-out and Illumination ...
Metanoia can be a proces from a dense darkness to refined and layered new views ...
