"This was 9 1/2 month old Shadow’s first visit to Happy Tails. Lisa was careful to introduce her to younger and smaller puppies until she became comfortable. By the time I picked her up she had made a number of pals, large and small. As I write this she is still chasing her friends in her sleep. First visit with many more to come. Thank you Happy Tails! " Kathy Varley

Thank you so much, Kathy! Shadow was an absolute joy on her first visit — such a bright, gentle girl with a big heart. We watched her confidence bloom as she made new friends, and it’s good to hear she's still dreaming about playing with her fur friends. Thank you as well for purchasing a package during the sale and already booking her next stay.

PS: Everyone — Shadow is a Bohemian Shepherd. Cool breed, isn’t she? And her mum trusted us for years with her beautiful Shiloh Shepherd, so it’s extra special to welcome Shadow now.

It has been an extremely busy day obsessing over how handsome Melo is. What a day it's been! Melo is estimated to be around 5 years and 9 months old. He looks like a German Shepherd but is built like a Grizzly Bear, weighing in at around 90 pounds ❤.

Melo has previously lived with dogs, cats, and kids. This sweet boy is missing one of his back legs, but it doesn't affect him. For this, we recommend joint supplements for life.

We're open until 7 pm today! Melo is waiting to meet you.

This is max born 2021. Sadly his owners have split up and max has also lost his canine friend who left with the partner of the owner. So max has lived with another dog but is selective with unknown dogs and not keen. He does bark at horses and not great near livestock. But tbh no dog should be mixing with livestock in any event. He is housetrained and good on the lead. But can pull if he sees something he wants to investigate, His recall is not great and needs work. He is crate trained. He travels well in the vehicle also. The owner works full time leaving max alone a lot and is struggling financially to cope with the cost of keeping max. If you can offer max a home please message us or fill in a form on our site on the internet [email protected] Max is a uk dog. Currently in the BARNSTAPLE DEVON AREA.

They found her lying softly in the grass, holding the same pink blooms she once chased across the yard as a playful pup.
Her name was Luna.

For 16 years, she brought warmth back into a life that had forgotten what warmth even felt like.

She was there the day Emma lost her baby.

When Emma came home from the hospital — empty arms, empty heart — it was Luna who curled beside her and refused to move. Not that night. Not the next. Not even when food was placed in front of her.
Luna understood the kind of grief that doesn’t ask for words… only company.

As the years passed, they aged together.
Emma’s auburn hair slowly shifted to silver.
Luna’s bright muzzle faded to gray.
Every evening, they walked the same garden — the one Emma once imagined her daughter playing in.

But instead, it was Luna who filled that space — running through the flowers, sleeping in the shade, bringing life back into a place that once felt empty.

Then one morning, Luna didn’t join Emma outside.

Emma found her lying peacefully in the sunlight, the soft rise and fall of her breath forever stilled.
Between her paws rested the pink wildflowers Emma had tucked onto her collar the day before.

Emma fell beside her, voice breaking as she whispered:

“Thank you for staying. I wouldn’t have survived without you.”

She held Luna the way she once dreamed of holding her baby — with a love that doesn’t end just because a heartbeat does.

And that day, the sun didn’t simply set on a dog.
It set on a soul who had already saved the one who loved her most.

We live in a very rural area and have had our share of animals dumped by heartless people. Some we are able to keep and others we find homes for. This pure bred older German Shepherd was dumped on us about 4 years ago. We decided to keep him, named him Shep and gave him food and lots of TLC. But it was weeks before he would allow anyone to touch him. One day I picked up one of our barn cats and Shep ran to me, nuzzled the cat and allowed me to pet him for the very first time.
He loves all of our cats and is more comfortable with them than he is with humans. Our vet says he most likely was abused before coming to us. He has a good life now and enjoys snuggling with a kitten we recently adopted…they are best buds.

Our sweet precious girl Nala has found herself back in the clinic 😔

She has become very weak and not the vibrant happy girl she usually is 😢
We took her straight to Dr Fady’s clinic to be assessed and have tests done.
She is very anemic which explains the weakness and lack of appetite which is causing some weight loss.
She has been put on IV for fluids as she is dehydrated. They are also trying to treat the anemia which is vital as it can cause so many symptoms which can be severe.

Nala really has been through such an ordeal 😭 when rescued her condition was heart wrenching 💔 from severely underweight and malnourished, seizures, liver and spleen damage, stabbed multiple times… the list goes on.
How she survived such a traumatic and abusive life previously and yet still is such a gentle and sweet girl who just craves love is incredible. They really are so forgiving and trusting ❤️

We are really worried for Nala right now, she really is in a bad way 😢
But we must remain hopeful and fight for our beautiful girl. She has come so far.
Keep fighting Nala, we are all here for you 💕

Please keep Nala in your thoughts and pray she makes it through 🙏🙏

Well today was quite the eventful day. This was Giana’s second singleton and second c-section, so I decided to spay her at the same time. Sadly this turned out to be a mistake.
Upon getting home she began pouring massive amounts of blood from her incision and became very weak.
We had to rush her back into surgery immediately to save her life as she was rapidly bleeding out. Thankfully the bleeder was found and contained. She made it through and is recovering. Please send some positive thoughts for her and her baby. Little pup is doing very well at the moment!

My grandma’s daughters haven’t spoken to her in weeks — all because she spent $200 on a dog bed.

Not because she talks to her German Shepherd like he’s her little gentleman.
Not because she tucks him in under the blankets she’s sewn by hand for decades.
But because she bought him an orthopedic bed… after noticing he struggled a bit getting up from the floor.

They don’t get it. But I do.

That German Shepherd isn’t “just a dog.” He’s been her anchor ever since my grandpa passed.
He’s the warm weight on her lap when the house feels too quiet.
He’s her reason to cook again, to laugh again, to keep moving through the days that would otherwise blend together.

Last night she sent me this photo — her and “Max” fast asleep on the couch, his head tucked under her hand like it belongs there.

Her message said: “He falls asleep on me the same way your grandpa used to.”

They think she’s losing her mind.
I think she’s finding her heart again — one stitch, one nap, one German Shepherd snore at a time. ❤️🐾 .

When I first met him, he was scared — not of me, but of everything around him. The sound of footsteps, the sudden noise of a car, even a kind voice made him flinch. You could tell… life hadn’t been kind to him before. 💔

But that day, when he looked up at me with those big brown eyes, something changed — for both of us. I promised him, “No more fear, buddy. You’re safe now.” 🐾

Weeks passed. He started to trust again. His tail wagged a little faster each morning. He learned that a hand reaching out meant love, not harm.
And one day, out of nowhere, he jumped up on me — eyes bright, ears perked, smile wide — as if saying, “I’m home.” 💛

Now, this goofy smile is what I wake up to every single day.
He didn’t just get adopted — he adopted my heart. ❤️

🖤 A Quiet Farewell: My German Shepherd’s Final Rest 🐾
He fell asleep not just with a full belly… but with a soul completely at peace. 🐾🍔❤️‍🩹

Today wasn't just another day. It was the day — the final chapter of a beautiful, loyal, and unforgetable story that spanned countless protective walks, rumbling low-growl conversations, serious-faced zoomies, and quiet cuddles on stormy nights. 💤

My boy, my noble old German Shepherd, my vigilant shadow for over a decade… took his last nap in my arms. And before he closed those tired, bright brown eyes, he had his favorite treat — a hamburger. A simple gesture, but to him, it meant everything. It wasn’t about the burger… it was about feeling heard, remembered, and deeply loved. 🍔✨

He didn’t go scared. He didn’t go alone. He went wrapped in the only arms he’s ever truly known, under the soft sun, with the breeze brushing through his thick, sable coat — just the way he always liked it. 🌤

I whispered everything I never wanted to say — thank you, I love you, and it’s okay to rest now.

It’s hard to put into words what it feels like to let go of someone who never spoke a single human word, but somehow communicated through his attentive head-tilts and soulful eyes better than most people ever could. He was more than a pet. He was home, my safe place, my reason to smile on the hardest days, my fiercely loyal companion. 🏡💔

We grow up thinking we rescue dogs… but really, they rescue us in ways we don’t even realize. And when they leave, they take a piece of us with them — the purest, most innocent part. 🌈🐶

Run free now, my sweet boy. No more pain. No more old bones. Just open fields to patrol, moonlit nights to observe, and endless naps in the sunshine. Thank you for every wag, every cuddle, every protective bark that said, “I’m here and you are safe.” You were — and always will be — my greatest goodbye. 🕊️🐾💔
