"This was 9 1/2 month old Shadow’s first visit to Happy Tails. Lisa was careful to introduce her to younger and smaller puppies until she became comfortable. By the time I picked her up she had made a number of pals, large and small. As I write this she is still chasing her friends in her sleep. First visit with many more to come. Thank you Happy Tails! " Kathy Varley

Thank you so much, Kathy! Shadow was an absolute joy on her first visit — such a bright, gentle girl with a big heart. We watched her confidence bloom as she made new friends, and it’s good to hear she's still dreaming about playing with her fur friends. Thank you as well for purchasing a package during the sale and already booking her next stay.

PS: Everyone — Shadow is a Bohemian Shepherd. Cool breed, isn’t she? And her mum trusted us for years with her beautiful Shiloh Shepherd, so it’s extra special to welcome Shadow now.

It has been an extremely busy day obsessing over how handsome Melo is. What a day it's been! Melo is estimated to be around 5 years and 9 months old. He looks like a German Shepherd but is built like a Grizzly Bear, weighing in at around 90 pounds ❤.

Melo has previously lived with dogs, cats, and kids. This sweet boy is missing one of his back legs, but it doesn't affect him. For this, we recommend joint supplements for life.

We're open until 7 pm today! Melo is waiting to meet you.

This is max born 2021. Sadly his owners have split up and max has also lost his canine friend who left with the partner of the owner. So max has lived with another dog but is selective with unknown dogs and not keen. He does bark at horses and not great near livestock. But tbh no dog should be mixing with livestock in any event. He is housetrained and good on the lead. But can pull if he sees something he wants to investigate, His recall is not great and needs work. He is crate trained. He travels well in the vehicle also. The owner works full time leaving max alone a lot and is struggling financially to cope with the cost of keeping max. If you can offer max a home please message us or fill in a form on our site on the internet [email protected] Max is a uk dog. Currently in the BARNSTAPLE DEVON AREA.

They found her lying softly in the grass, holding the same pink blooms she once chased across the yard as a playful pup.
Her name was Luna.

For 16 years, she brought warmth back into a life that had forgotten what warmth even felt like.

She was there the day Emma lost her baby.

When Emma came home from the hospital — empty arms, empty heart — it was Luna who curled beside her and refused to move. Not that night. Not the next. Not even when food was placed in front of her.
Luna understood the kind of grief that doesn’t ask for words… only company.

As the years passed, they aged together.
Emma’s auburn hair slowly shifted to silver.
Luna’s bright muzzle faded to gray.
Every evening, they walked the same garden — the one Emma once imagined her daughter playing in.

But instead, it was Luna who filled that space — running through the flowers, sleeping in the shade, bringing life back into a place that once felt empty.

Then one morning, Luna didn’t join Emma outside.

Emma found her lying peacefully in the sunlight, the soft rise and fall of her breath forever stilled.
Between her paws rested the pink wildflowers Emma had tucked onto her collar the day before.

Emma fell beside her, voice breaking as she whispered:

“Thank you for staying. I wouldn’t have survived without you.”

She held Luna the way she once dreamed of holding her baby — with a love that doesn’t end just because a heartbeat does.

And that day, the sun didn’t simply set on a dog.
It set on a soul who had already saved the one who loved her most.

We live in a very rural area and have had our share of animals dumped by heartless people. Some we are able to keep and others we find homes for. This pure bred older German Shepherd was dumped on us about 4 years ago. We decided to keep him, named him Shep and gave him food and lots of TLC. But it was weeks before he would allow anyone to touch him. One day I picked up one of our barn cats and Shep ran to me, nuzzled the cat and allowed me to pet him for the very first time.
He loves all of our cats and is more comfortable with them than he is with humans. Our vet says he most likely was abused before coming to us. He has a good life now and enjoys snuggling with a kitten we recently adopted…they are best buds.
