Nurses have been caring for a young woman with advanced ovarian cancer. The patients is experiencing significant pain, but her mother, a nurse, has asked that her daughter not be given pain medication because she wants her daughter lucid for their last hours together. Although in tremendous pain, the patient agrees to her mother’s wishes. What should the nurses do?
