The fight that has generated so much heat in New Hampshire politics ended in a whimper on Thursday. Democrats admitted defeat before the vote began. They didn’t even ask for a roll call, letting the bill pass the chamber on a voice vote.

“Democrats just gave a dejected ‘no’ and that was it. No debate,” one observer noted. “Incredible.”

Of the 57,559 political contributions made by individuals listing “Dartmouth College” as their employer, 98.9 percent went to Democrats. Only 1.1% went to Republicans.

Strip out contributions from custodians and dining hall staff, and the Republican share drops to 0.7%.

"The judge openly admitted that Pride flags are allowed because they promote ‘inclusion,’ but wristbands defending women’s sports are banned because they might ‘offend’ someone. That’s viewpoint discrimination, plain and simple — and it’s unconstitutional.”

“I’m not going to run,” Sununu, 50, said Tuesday morning. “I really thought about it. I actually talked to the White House this morning. I talked to (U.S. Sen.) Tim Scott. Thanked him for all their support and confidence and all that. But I don’t have to be the candidate, and I’m not going to be the candidate.”

My bill (HB251) challenges that cold logic of mandatory euthanasia, proposing instead that these creatures be adopted into loving homes as pets when they can’t survive on their own. It’s a practical, humane alternative that respects life, saves taxpayer money, and cuts government waste.

In 2001, the Portsmouth school district had 2,706 students and was spending $42.8 million educating them.

In 2019, enrollment slipped to 2,676 students, but taxpayers spent $10 million more ($52.6 million) on schools, a per-pupil spending number of $19,657.

And according to the New Hampshire Department of Education, by 2024 Portsmouth’s enrollment was down to 2,428 while per pupil spending had surged to $25,488.

Does that sound like a spending “crunch?”
