The fabric of Native culture: Millicent Rogers Museum welcomes special exhibition by Diné quilter Susan Hudson

One of the things for which the Millicent Rogers Museum owes its fame is the fine collection of historic Diné (Navajo) rugs and blankets amassed over decades. These textiles were carefully curated to serve as examples of various styles and techniques that help tell the story of this Indigenous tribe from Southern Utah, Northeastern Arizona, Northwestern New Mexico and parts of Southwestern Colorado.

In a special exhibition, the MRM staff will exhibit works by Diné artist Susan Hudson, the first Indigenous story quilter in the United States and a 2024 National Endowment for the Arts Heritage fellow. The show is planned to also include works from the multi-generational Navajo Quilt Project.

Taos is not a cookie-cutter mountain town and it's not trying to be. We're not meaning to be full of ourselves, but we love the quaint, casual and historic fabric of our beautiful Sangre de Cristo Mountain home in the Southern Rockies. This ain't Colorado.

Discover why Taos is deep into the arts and we're pretty proud of that. We have more galleries than gas stations, and more museums and historic homes than grocery stores.

Keep your ear to the ground and eyes trained up

As with R.E.M.'s “Stand,” Sheyenne Sky’s new group exhibition at Revolt Gallery comes with directional directions. Instead of being told to “face north, think about direction, wonder why you haven’t before,” the aptly named Sky asks viewers to have their “Ear to the Ground, Eyes Trained Up.” Such is the name of the Sky curated show opening with the artists in attendance on Friday (Nov. 7) from 6–9 p.m. and runs through Friday, Dec. 12.
