The , ranked, with some cool poster art along the way. Qualifications begin and end with being a lifelong horror nerd.
🎃 Halloween (1978) (art )
Still the blueprint! Simple, basic, pure October air.
☘️ Halloween III: Season of the Witch (art )
Once the black sheep of the franchise, now a cult classic. W***y Wonka for horror nerds!
🤡 Halloween 4
You never forget your first Halloween movie. I still get the fall feels from this underrated sequel.
🔥 Halloween (2018) (art )
A strong reboot that stands on its own. Danny McBride's dark humor gives it an extra edge.
🪓 Halloween H20 (art )
Peak late-'90s horror, riding high on the post-Scream wave. My version of "cozy horror," plus memories of a fun theatrical experience at Copley Plaza Theatre (R.I.P.).
🏥 Halloween II (1981) (art )
Jamie Lee's wig steals the show. Sometimes feels like a series of slasher set pieces trying to keep pace with the early '80s boom.
🍮 Halloween Ends ( again!)
Despite the backlash, I'll give it credit for taking a strange, supernatural swing. Also: "Boys who keep secrets don't get custard for dessert."
🍼 Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers (art )
Released during horror's mid-'90s identity crisis, this still feels like a proper Spooky Season event. Whichever cut you prefer, I'll always take Donald Pleasence yelling about the boy with the blackest eyes.
🚒 Halloween Kills (art )
Less a sequel than a bridge to another movie. Bonus points for Big John, Little John, and a Jim Cummings sighting.
🕴️ Halloween 5 (art )
I can't forgive the Halloween 4 ending erasure or the death of final girl Rachel.
🐎 Rob Zombie's Halloween & Halloween II
I have a high tolerance for gore and depravity. Even I was clutching my pearls during this duology. Brad Dourif gives a knockout performance, though.
📹 Halloween: Resurrection
Best I can say: I saw it the day before I got married, so it bookmarks a happy memory.
