Maggie Rogers at United Center. Swipe to see where I shot this concert from.

Some reflections:
This concert was the largest stadium I’ve ever been able to photograph for and I was so nervous. I brought 2 cameras, a fixed 50 mm lens which is what I typically use for concerts, and a 300 mm zoom lens. I got to the venue after taking the hour hike that is public transit and ended up sitting in a room until the opener concluded their set.

As I was led through the hallways leading to the photographer entrance I was informed that all photographers wouldn’t be permitted to go past the barricade. Once we were shown the area that the stadium had approved for photographers I realized just how far away we were (see picture 3).

Not only were we far away from the stage, but there was a standing GA section between me and the stage — aka lots of heads blocking my shot.

I was convinced there wasn’t anyway to get a good photo as photographers for other publications had lenses triple the size of mine.

However, the end result was far better than I could have imagined. I’m proud of the photos I was able to capture and the problem solving I had to use to make the best of the situation.

This was a learning experience I’m grateful and now I know the next time I do a show at United Center I need a step stool and a far bigger lens.
