Live chat with Sam Calagione of Dogfish Head!

We're sitting down with craft beer pioneer Sam Calagione to talk 25+ years of off-centered ales.

Crazy beers may be the norm these days, but in the brewpub-heavy craft landscape of 1995 Dogfish Head's brews were a shock to the system, and palate. We'll talk with Sam about brewing beastly IPAs, reviving ancient ales, emerging beer styles and trends, and more.

🔥 THREE HUNDRED EPISODES 🔥

January 2, 2016 - Beer Guys Radio goes on the air in Atlanta, GA with our very first episode. Two guys talking local beer with one little station getting us out to the masses. This week, we launched our 300th episode with Harpoon Brewery to 50 radio affiliates around the world and thousands of podcast listeners. What a ride.

The beer world has changed tremendously in the last 6 years. Here in our home state of Georgia breweries couldn't sell beer to their visitors when we launched, and most people didn't even know that hazy was a flavor. We've seen a ton of great new breweries open, and too many close. We've been evicted from our home for "not being in line with the station's values" and found a new much better home with our friends at Ironmonger Brewing.

Most importantly... we've met sooo many amazing people and made new friends. We've had great conversations and shared too many awesome beers to count.

THANK YOU for listening to us, hanging out with us, sharing your stories and sharing a beer. We most certainly couldn't have done it without you.

There are some exciting things in the works for Beer Guys Radio in 2022. It's going to be our best year ever. Cheers! 🍻

25th Annual Classic City Brewfest | Ep. 288 | Beer Guys Radio

In keeping with tradition, we attended the 25th Annual Classic City Brewfest last weekend and talked with some of the coolest folks in craft beer for a jam-packed show.

Georgia beer legend and event organizer Owen Ogletree joined us to talk about the event, the changes over the last 25 years, and the Athens Area Humane Society, which the fest supports.

We sat down with Carey Charles of Arches Brewing to talk about the growth of lagers and how they are killing it on the Southside of Atlanta.

Nick Tanner and Ramsay Florence of Cherry Street Brewing talked expansion and future plans for their production brewery in Chattanooga, TN. I give them some props for the best fish and chips in the Atlanta area at their Halcyon location. #FACTS And a few text exchanges after the fest gets the wheels spinning on a BGR/Cherry Street collab. (Ramsay, call me.)

To wrap things up we're joined by Joseph Cortes, Executive Director of the Georgia Craft Brewers Guild, who took a break from slinging sweet Georgia beer tees to talk to us. We discuss the changes in Georgia's beer laws and the pains (and necessity) of "incremental change" plus what Georgia brewers and consumers want to see change in the state.

Check it out!

Live with Bespoken Spirits!

Bespoken Spirits is creating whiskies in a fraction of the time that it normally takes - a few days compared to several years. They use fewer resources to do it and their ACTivator technology focuses on Aroma, Color, and Taste. They've even taken beer that was unsold due to Covid and turned it into spirts.

Days instead of years? Only 3% of the wood of barrel aging? We're not sure what to think about this voodoo, but we'll find out. Join us as we chat with co-founders Stu Aaron and Martin Janousek and sample a couple of their offerings.

Classic American Craft Beers

When you think classic American craft beer, what comes to mind?

My intro the the craft world was a good ol' Boston Lager. Quite a move from the Bud Light and OE 800 I'd been drinking. American craft beer is still a relatively young industry. With the exception of 1 or 2, our pioneers are from the early 1980s. Beers like Sierra Nevada Pale Ale helped introduce bold flavors in beer and paved the way for the DDH Milkshake NEIPAs we have today. What a ride.

In celebration of America's birthday we're going to sample some Classic Craft and talk a bit about the history and progression of American craft beer. Come join us to chat and share your favorites.

Georgia Breweries List and Map

For our Georgia followers... here's an updated list and map of Georgia breweries, brewpubs, cideries, and meaderies. We've been tracking this for many years (despite what the AJC says) and watching our beer scene grow.

In 2018 we visited every brewery and brewpub in the state, along with a couple that were opening soon. We hit a total of 85 spots and today there are over 150. That's some serious growth in a few years; and with a pandemic thrown in for good measure.

Recent additions include Blackbird Farms Brewery, Sabbath Brewing, and Mandatory Fun Beer Works.

We want to send out a huge thank you to a couple of our sponsors for supporting Beer Guys Radio over the years and recently renewing their sponsorships!

Truck & Tap Woodstock was our very first sponsor. Way back in 2016 they were brand new, and so were we. They had one location, we had one radio station. Truck & Tap has now grown to four locations and Beer Guys Radio can be heard on nearly 50 radio stations around the world. Thanks for believing in us and supporting us!

We met Anthony of Storey Time Construction when he worked for another builder. When they closed up, he hunkered down and started up Storey Time. You've probably enjoyed one of the taprooms, restaurants, or bars that they've built, and there is more to come. Thanks so much for partnering with us!

As much as we love making Beer Guys Radio and talking with all the amazing people in the craft beer world, it is not a cheap endeavor. We seriously couldn't do this without the support of our sponsors. If you're looking to grab some grub and a beer please do visit one of Truck & Tap's locations. And if you need to build or upgrade your brewery, bar, taproom, or restaurant you really need to talk to Storey Time Construction!

THANK YOU!!!!!

Spreading the good word of craft beer

Join co-hosts Tim Dennis and Brian Hewitt every week as they discuss craft beer events, new beer releases, beer styles, homebrewing techniques and troubleshooting, beer-related politics, and more.

Beer Guys Radio was founded by Tim Dennis and Aaron Williams with Episode #1 airing on Atlanta’s WGKA AM 920 on January 2, 2016.

Each week the Beer Guys bring listeners news, events, and interviews from the world of craft beer and other areas of interest to craft beer fans. The show’s listeners include a diverse mix of consumers, brewers, retailers, distributors, politicians, and others from all walks of life. We’ve got something for everyone up in here.

The team has grown some since the early days, with Becky “Smalls” joining the team as a Production Assistant in early 2016 and Brian Hewitt officially joining the team as a “Field Hoperative” in mid-2017. Aaron departed the show in May 2018, and Brian stepped on up to co-host the program. Beer Guys Radio has also added affiliate stations across the US and can be heard on all popular podcasting platforms.

Recently a homebrewer down in Georgia reached out after hearing about our Flynn on Fire smoked beer series. He wanted to ask our advice on formulating a smoked beer recipe of his own and, of course, we happily obliged. Turns out that homebrewer is buddies with Beer Guys Radio who then asked if we'd join them on the show to chat about Flynn on Fire (which you can listen to here: bit.ly/3nzCydd)! Finally, fast forward to last week when we got a chance to enjoy our new homebrewer friend’s finished product. Cheers to beers bringing people together (even if it’s virtually!) across world. 🔥🍻

24 Beers of Christmas! Day #10: Pretty sure these two movies were Christmas movies. I know both had snow and beer in them. Okay, maybe just beer. Well, even in the Outback they celebrate the holidays by drinking Blue Note Brewing Company's Hopadile Dundee. This 6.5%, 30 IBU, New England IPA, gets the blokes and sheila's hazy crazy and brings the citrus and smooth mouthfeel that Foster's doesn't. They'll be jumping like kangaroo's and chomping at the bit like crocs for this tasty beverage because Blue Note keeps their ingredients real and sharp - like a Bowie knife.
