A little trip down the road, this morning, to catch D1015 'Western Champion' heading to Plymouth with 'The South Devon Explorer', seen cruising along the Great Western Main Line at Bourton. At the rear was 37240, in its fetching Transrail grey livery.

A little bit of on train sound recording down on the Mid Hants Railway, on board the 14:50 from Alton, on the bank holiday Monday, with visiting LSWR T3 No.563 at the helm. In slippery conditions, following a sudden downpour just before departure, we hear the large wheeled 4-4-0 getting stuck into the 1 in 100 and 1 in 60 gradients on the climb up to the summit of the line, just before Medstead and Four Marks Station.

The recent spring steam gala at the Mid Hants Railway saw an 8 coach express train worked by newly restored 'Merchant Navy' No.35005 'Canadian Pacific', recreating the days when Southern expresses were diverted over 'The Alps' via Alresford while the Southern main line was electrified during the 1960s. This video brings us back to July 2017, when a similar recreation was worked by Can Pac's younger sibling, 35006 'Peninsular & Oriental S. N. Co.', who was visiting the line for their End of Southern Steam gala. Many will agree this was a highlight of the gala, as P&O delivered that lovely Bulleid beat up the 1 in 60 gradient past Hampshire Hunt Bridge, in full afternoon sun.

My first bit of main line action of the year, with 70000 'Britannia' heading a Steam Dreams excursion to Cardiff, followed by 5029 'Nunney Castle' returning to the main line for the first time in over 10 years, working the 'Chairman's Train' between Bristol and Kingswear.

The 2017 edition of 'Whistles & Two Tones', a roundup of various British steam locomotive whistles and diesel horns throughout the years. 2017 marked the 50th anniversary of the end of steam on the Southern Region of British Railways, so this one features a good number of Bulleid Pacifics a tootin' and a hootin'.

Another trip down to the Isle of Purbeck for a few more shots of Ivatt 2MT No.41313 in action on the Swanage Branch, working a day of normal services, following its appearance at the spring steam gala, before it heads off across the Solent back home to the Isle of Wight.

A good day out with the camera, even if the wind was rather unforgiving 😅

A small selection of shots from the Saturday of the Swanage Railway's 2025 spring steam gala, last weekend, which saw Ivatt 2MT No.41313 and GWR 'Hall' No.4953 'Pitchford Hall' joining the home fleet in action, courtesy of the Isle of Wight Steam Railway and the Epping Ongar Railway, respectively. Bulleid Pacific No.34072 '257 Squadron' also made a return to the line, following a spell at the Spa Valley Railway.
