VIOLINIST Daniel Kurganov TO GIVE BOSTON PREMIERE OF INTERNATIONALLY CO-COMMISSIONED SONATA

World Sonata Project Dedicated to Suzuki Violin Pedagogue John Kendall Commissioned by Violinists in 35 Countries

Boston, MA, October 23, 2017 --Russian violinist Daniel Kurganov will give the Boston premiere of composer Stephanie Ann Boyd’s new solo sonata for violin on November 3rd at 7:30 PM at The Taylor House, with a second concert on November 5th at Framingham Public Library, as part of the World Sonata Project. This project is a consortium commission involving violinists from 35 countries, and is Part 2 of a two year project celebrating the life and work of John Kendall, a pedagogue who helped to bring the Suzuki teaching method to America. Kurganov will also be playing the Franck sonata and other favorites for violin and piano with local piano soloist Constantine Finehouse. Russian-American Violinist Daniel Kurganov has emerged as a unique voice synthesizing a style of musicianship that spans different eras. He has already garnered praise from such musical giants as Ivry Gitlis, Sergej Krylov and Rudolf Koelman, as well as from publications such as the Neue Zürcher Zeitung, the Neue Luzerner Zeitung, The Worcester Telegram&Gazette and the Boston Globe. Daniel has given concert tours throughout the USA, Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. Recent career highlights include soloist appearances with the New Hampshire Philharmonic, and a two-week concert tour of Japan with the Boston Chamber Orchestra and BCO Quartet. A native of Minsk, Belarus, Daniel started his musical education in Chicago. He completed his Masters at the Zürcher Hochschule der Künste in Zurich (Zurich Academy of the Arts), where he received the Freundeskreis Scholarship, and also studied at the DePaul School of Music in Chicago. “Daniel’s artistry is the contemporary version of our early 20th century violin heros”, Boyd said. “His aesthetic is nostalgic and intense, and it’s such a pleasure to be working with this visionary on this sonata.”

New York City-based Stephanie Ann Boyd, Composer, who recently graduated from the New England Conservatory in Boston, Massachusetts with a masters degree in composition, studied violin with Kendall while in high school in Michigan in the US. Stephanie’s 2016/2017 season included the premieres of the cello concerto Tekton, the bassoon concerto Rituum, commissions by New York City’s Moirae Ensemble, members of the Reno Philharmonic, Mars Hill University’s Alan Theisen, Beijing’s Sun He, Kingma System flutist Rachel Hacker, and a consortium commission involving 50 violinists across America. Other recent highlights involved being chosen as the NEC/ Boston Modern Orchestra Project (BMOP) winner and having her violin concerto premiered in Jordan Hall by recent Michael Hill International Competition prize-winner Eunae Koh under the baton of Australian conductor Nathan Aspinall.

Museum at Walnut Street Synagogue of Chelsea, MA, the Eureka Ensemble, and Chelsea Collaborative Come Together to Create Community for All Concert Series

CHELSEA, MA – October 17, 2017 – The Museum at Walnut Street Synagogue, in collaboration with Chelsea Collaborative and Eureka Ensemble (Eureka), will offer free performances celebrating the rich diversity of the Chelsea community on November 5th, 15th, and 19th. Each concert will feature classical musicians from the Greater Boston Area as well as “orchestra playgrounds,” where children and adults can see, touch, and play instruments with the musicians.

Every performance is free and open to the public and will showcase musical programs with commentary on the musical styles and heritages of the featured composers. With varied thematic repertoire, the series seeks to represent the diversity that makes Chelsea such a strong community.
Refreshments will be provided. Suggested Donation box will be available.
