The Spectacle We're a little cracked, and we like it that way. Louis. We publish fiction, nonfiction, poetry, reviews, and visual art.

The Spectacle is an online literary magazine run by graduate students and faculty at Washington University in St. We like scholars who write great poetry, poets who write incisive monographs, credulous skeptics, wary believers, hidebound experimentalists, radical realists, mystical engineers, analytical mystics, catholic snobs, and modish antiquarians. We have a soft spot for keen amateurs and sin

cere dilettantes. In short, we’re searching for a variety of disturbances, as long as they arrive on time and with style.

Our Story

We aim for content that reminds us that our lenses matter—they focus, distort, clarify, conceal. We value and emphasize relationships between the literary and visual arts, pairing the majority of the pieces we publish with original work from a variety of contributing visual artists.

Based out of the English, Creative Writing, and Visual Art departments at Washington University in St. Louis, The Spectacle is committed to publishing work from under-represented voices, including people of color, women, people from LGBTQIA+ communities, and people who have disabilities.
