There’s truly no better place to be than home—celebrating the Easter holidays with my beloved mothers from Oru East. Organising the Prada Uzodimma Easter Fun Fair in honour of our mothers, widows, and elderly women was a beautiful way to mark the resurrection of Christ.

From lucky dips and mystery boxes to rolling balls and endless laughter, over 400 women came together for an unforgettable afternoon filled with games, entertainment, and generous giveaways. Everyone went home empowered—with a prize, a cash gift, and most importantly, a big smile.

It is both a privilege and a profound honour to be a blessing to others—one I never take for granted.

Fintiri: A True Definition of Leadership

In Adamawa’s heart, a leader rose high,
With vision like stars that light up the sky.
Fintiri, the name that echoes with grace,
A servant of people, a beacon, a face.

With courage he walked where few dared to tread,
Uplifting the weary, the hungry he fed.
In schools and in roads, in peace and in might,
He governed with wisdom, with justice and right.

He listens, he acts, not lost in mere speech,
But reaches the hearts that others can’t reach.
The youth find in him a mentor so true,
A builder of dreams, in all that they do.

No throne or crown has clouded his mind,
He leads with a purpose, strong yet kind.
A torch in the dark, a calm in the storm,
In service, in honor, he sets the norm.

Oh Fintiri, your legacy grows,
Like rivers that nourish wherever it flows.
May your path be long, your vision stay clear,
For in you, true leadership lives years to years.

_ GOVERNOR AHMED ALIYU’S TWO YEARS IN THE SADDLE – Celebrating Fruitful Service Delivery

© By Sani Umar

Nigeria is currently in its 26th year of democratic governance, and elected officials across the country are midway through their four-year tenure.

When the general elections were held in 2023, there was a wave of enthusiasm and excitement among the electorate, who viewed the polls as a vital opportunity to exercise their franchise and make their voices heard through the ballot box.

These elections empowered citizens to choose their representatives at various levels of government, including the President, state governors, and members of both the national and state assemblies.

Elections provide an avenue for the public to express their preferences, which are often rooted in expectations and belief in the capacity of candidates to serve effectively and deliver on their promises.

Fulfilling the expectations of diverse communities and interest groups is, without doubt, a daunting task. The challenges of governance are further complicated by unforeseen factors that are often overlooked when demands are made on elected officials.

Now, as we mark the halfway point of the tenure of those elected in 2023, it is only natural that assessments are being carried out to evaluate their performance across the country.

It is important to note that these assessments are intended to determine whether those in office have lived up to the mandate entrusted to them, and or whether they have worked for the benefit of their constituents or merely pursued self-aggrandizement.

This periodic scrutiny serves as a democratic checkpoint, reminding elected officials of the consequences that await them in future elections. Performance evaluations help to determine who earns the right to return and who falls short.

While some officials dread such evaluations for fear of negative verdicts, others welcome the opportunity to showcase their accomplishments.

NLIST upgrades Sokoto Office to Regional Centre, Gov. Aliyu pledges support to it

Gov. Ahmed Aliyu has assured his administration's support to the newly upgraded Sokoto Office of the Nigeria Institute of Leather Science and Technology to carry out its mandates effectively.

He stated this while receiving its Director- General, Dr Awwal Mustafa Imam who visited him.

The Governor commended the foresight by the Director-General to upgrade the Sokoto office of the Institute to a regional office.

He said the move would go along way in improving the economic status of the region and Sokoto in particular.

"The activities of this Institute are in line with my administration's 9- point Smart Innovative Agenda to reduce unemployment and create jobs opportunities for our people

"Upgrading the Sokoto office to a regional office is the right thing to do considering the fact that Sokoto is the home of leather.

"Even the popular Moroccan leather originated from Sokoto as it was made from our popular Sokoto red goats," he added.

The Governor assured the Director- General of his administration's determination to support the newly created Sokoto regional centre to function effectively

He appealed for more job vacancies to Sokoto State indigenes in the new regional office.

Gov. Aiyu appealed, '"We look forward to a stronger collaboration with NLIST for the good of our people."

Earlier, Dr Awwal Mustafa Imam said, the Institute decided to upgrade its Sokoto office in consideration of the strategic position Sokoto occupies in the country.

He added that preparations were in top gear to provide the regional office with all the needed equipment for efficiency and called on the state government to sponsor its indigenes to study leather related courses offered by the Institute.

Imam said, "We have inspected the facility and directed the movement of heavy equipment from Zaria to Sokoto

"We have mobilized the contractors to return to the site for the construction of affluent water treatment plant and for the renovation of Tannery so that the center can compete with the headquarters and other centers."

He solicited for the support and cooperation of the members of the National Assembly in the zone to consider the center in their constituency projects by bringing their people to it for skills acquisition training.

Dr Awwal added that the Institute lacks adequate manpower, hence the need for the states to send their people to the center to study leather and leather products courses.

According to him,the leather industry in Nigeria has the potential to equally generate a lot of income into the nation's coffers,if properly supported by the state governments.

The D-G also commended the member representing Bodinga,Dange Shuni and Tureta Federal Constituency, Nasiru Shehu Bodinga, for his effort in ensuring the upgrade of the state office to a regional one.

The D-G used the occasion to present to the Governor a letter on the upgrading of the state office to a regional office, and announced Garba Ajiya Kilgori, an indigene of Sokoto as the pioneer Coordinator of the centre.

Illuminating the Northern Zone: Senator Amos Yohanna’s Solar Street Light Initiative

In a commendable effort to enhance the quality of life in Adamawa North Senatorial District, Senator Amos K. Yohanna continues to fulfill his promises to his constituents by embarking on a comprehensive solar street light installation project.

Following closely on the heels of his recent empowerment program for 142 women and youths across the five local government areas, Senator Yohanna has now shifted his focus to illuminating the region, with the installation of solar-powered street lights across major streets and key locations in the district.

Senator Yohanna’s solar street light initiative is more than just an infrastructure project; it is a visionary step towards fostering security, enhancing community well-being, and promoting sustainable development.

Recognizing the challenges that inadequate lighting poses to the safety and security of residents, especially in rural areas, by illuminating streets, religious centers, health facilities, village markets, and schools, this initiative will not only deter criminal activities but will also improve the overall quality of life for the residents.

The strategic placement of these lights in public spaces reflects Senator Yohanna’s deep understanding of the needs of his constituents. In an area where access to reliable electricity remains a significant challenge, solar-powered street lights offer a practical and sustainable solution.

The solar street light installation project is already underway, with engineers on-site planting the bases for the lights. The proper installation phase is scheduled to begin on Monday, marking the start of a new chapter in the Senator’s commitment to infrastructural development and community empowerment.

This project is set to have a lasting impact, offering residents the benefits of improved visibility and safety during the night, which in turn can boost economic activities and social interactio
