Need evidence that we’re a visual species? Today in excess of 3.2 billion photos and 720,000 hours of video are shared per day across social media. 🤯📱
One piece of advice before explaining why social media is addictive:
Get outside once in a while, touch some grass and smell some fresh air!
Science wise, social media is addictive for many reasons, some of them being:
Neurological System Reward: This basically means the release of dopamine from the brain. It’s like a tiny splash of happiness for every like, share or comment you receive on your posts! ❤️
Social Validation: As human beings, we like to be part of a society. That’s where social media fills the gap, by entertaining the need of human interaction through posts, like, shares etc… 👩❤️👨
Fear of Missing Out (FOMO): Social media platforms are basically the new “news”! You certainly don’t want to miss out on any new update coming up every second! 🤳
Escapism: Need to release some stress of the real world? Get into the digital one! The escape into another “dimension” helps with the relief of stress, anxiety and loneliness! 😌
Personalized Algorithm: This is one of the best tricks created by social media platforms! Every platform designs your own algorithm based on your like, interests and preferabilities, so you can stay as hooked up as you can be on social media! 🤤
So many addictive reasons to stay on social media! No matter how unhealthy it seems, most if not all the time, it captures you deeper into it!
So once again, try not to get caught up in this trap! Socialize in the real life instead… at least for a few hours… 🧍♂️🧍
