USS Missouri (BB-63) in the Miraflores Locks, Panama Canal, 13 October 1945, while en route from the Pacific to New York City to take part in Navy Day celebrations. Note the close fit of the ship in the locks. The beam of battleships of this era was determined by Panama Canal lock dimensions. Specifically, the locks are 110 feet wide, and the beam of the vessels are 108 feet and some inches, leaving about 8 inches of clearance, per side.

Ensign Jesse L. Brown, the first African-American aviator to complete the US Navy's basic flight training.

While flying in support of ground troops during the Battle of the Chosin Reservoir in December 1950, his F4U-4 Corsair came under fire and he crashed on a remote mountaintop. Despite the efforts of his friend and comrade Thomas J. Hudner Jr., who intentionally crashed his own aircraft in a rescue attempt, Brown died of his injuries.

Jonathan Majors portrays Brown in the 2022 movie, 'Devotion'.

Omaha Beach, one of the five beaches involved in the Allied invasion of Normandy - better known as D-Day - on June 6, 1944.

The beach was taken by the American forces, with sea transport provided by the US and other Allied navies. The land troops involved in the actual landings were the US Army Rangers and the 1st and 29th Infantry Divisions, with over 43,000 infantrymen setting foot on the sand.

The Japanese "Type A" midget submarine HA-19 - 1941 vs 2014.

It had grounded on 7 December 1941, following attempts to enter Pearl Harbor during the Japanese attack, and was discovered the following day.

Currently on display at the National Museum of the Pacific War in Fredericksburg.
