In the Bible stories of Jesus with kids, he isn't teaching he's inviting them to just be with them.

Yes, there were kids at times when he was teaching, but those are intergenerational moments. When we see him with children specifically, he is enjoying them and blessing them, and still teaching the older people how to love and treat the kids.

I wonder what would happen if we adopted this model...

My curiosity of kids' play used to shut down kids.

"Oh, look at that butterfly!"
"Is that Jesus being baptized?"

And quite often my guesses were either wrong which hurt their feelings or if I was right, I'd just hear "yeah" and the conversation was over.

I have to work really hard and be intentional, even now, to engage with kids when they are independently playing. I don't want to interrupt and I want to scaffold thoughtfulness without risking relationship or their confidence.

These are some questions that have been helpful in the process.
